Question about 1999 Ford F150 Regular Cab

1999 Ford F150 supercab - back driver door won't open

My driver side rear door will not open any more. It sounds and feels like the bottom latch will release when I pull the handle, but the top does not.

Is there a cable that could have come loose? What kind of tool does it take to remove the handle (bolt has round indentation with a small center post sticking up). Will a sledge hammer through the window improve my chances of fixing this?

Usually the door outer latch cable ends are broken off , One is made out of rubber and the other is a hard plastic and in time they break. an easy fix is to go to ebay and order the Door Handle Cable Repair Kit around $14. Dollars they are cheaper than the cable $65.dollars which the cable is made into the latch on my Ford F150 there are kits for all makes and models As long as the inside cable is not broken these kits are ideal. Instruction are included Easy and cheaper fix

the cable mechanism was poorly made and destined to fail. Thing is ford is making a fortune on the repairs. I believe this to be a safity issue and there has been no recall. Why?....

2000 ford f 150 supercab back door on drivers side will not open

The cable runs from the latch to the handle, it sounds like the cable broke off one end or fell off,

this truck uses cables instead of metal rods to open the latch, remove the door panel and see if the cable fell off handle area or latch,,
the cable operates the inside door handle and sometimes the outside handle but very rare that it operates the out side handle to open door.

1998 Ford F150 supercab - passenger side door won't open

Get inside the backseat remove two screws that hold the side window. Gently pull the top plastic panel out all around and the panel will come out. It is held by about six clips. Then remove the screws and a nut off the bottom panel. These are all at the top of the bottom panel. Remove a couple of screws thatholds the inside doorl latch. Once all out then simply lift up on the bottom panel and it will come out. Remove the plastic sheet that overs the side door underneath the panel. Now you can see the whole mechanisim for the unlatch. On my truck the problem was with the top cable going into the latch mechanisim. The top cable came loose, out of the slot that held it in place. I pit it back into the slot and made a metal clip to keep it in place. If your interested I can add picture of the clip. Reassembled the door and was done in about three hours.

Rear doors wont open they release at the top of door but not at the bottom

if its anything like a full size F150 you will need new latch assemblies, get them from the dealer. You may need to pull off the panel and open them manually to get the door open. find the end of the cable and pull down (at the handle mechanism)

I HAVE A 2000 FORD F250 AND BOTH BACK DOORS WILL NOT OPEN, IT SOUNDS LIKE THE LOWER LATCH IS WORKING BUT NOT THE TOP ONE. HOW DO I GET THEM OPEN SO I CAN LOOK INSIDE THE PANEL TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS?

So i am going to assume you have a supercab with suicide rear doors by thwe way you say the upper latch! There is a cover over the upper latch. Remove it. You should be able to get a screw driver or something up in the to depress the latchlock. Sounds like the cable inside may be broke to the top latch release. otherwise keep disassembling until you are able to get the door open. You might even need to remove the upper latch from the frame if possible.

99 ford f150 extended door doesn't open. It seems that the latch on top of the door is stuck or disconnected from the handle.

Remove the interior door panel this can be done with the door closed. peel back the moisture barrier, look inside the door and you will see a latch mechanism with two cables next to it, the top cable releases the top latch and the bottom cable releases the bottom latch, the top latch cable is probably not mounted to the latch (anchored) you will probably have to replaace it with a new one, then it should work fine. Hope this helps, let me know
