Question about Isuzu Rodeo

Open Question

2005 isuzu rodeo denver doesn't engage 4wd

You can hear the actuator move and feel a "click", but it does not turn the front wheels, checked the wiring and vacuum, both are ok, checked the actuator, it works fine

SOURCE: 1999 isuzu rodeo 4wd not woking

I had this happen to a 1999 4x4 LS and my sisters boyfriend mentioned to periodically turn 4x4 on/off at least once a month.
What I did was go down a stretch of road slowly and attempt to turn it on/off till it became unstuck.
Drove around 10 miles on a road that was hardly used...to get the stupid light to quit flashing I had to put it in park and try to creep forward ---while using off settiing or put in park then reverse...while using the off -setting on 4x4. My patience paid off. They get sticky...you must be cautious... because there is a way to cause vibration and then it won't start...some deadman feature that I experienced once and the LWD must have slipped in a little and I had to look at everything.
Mine is an Automatic with the shift on the floor...that can get sticky too.

Good luck and hope this helps...mine had lots of growing pains but I get 23 mpg and it runs/idles better and the only gremlin left is some short in the dash which leaves the lights D/3 (one or both on)for the shift indicator on:)

SOURCE: Chevy Tahoe 2001

Place vehicle in 4wd (high or low). This will hold the front drive shaft still for the rest of the test. Jack up the front end of the vehicle. Remove the actuator. Have a buddy spin the right front wheel while you use a long punch or screwdriver to try to manually engage the diff. The left front wheel should spin in the other direction if the diff is good. Also before you check the diff you need to grab the front driveshaft and make sure it is locked, If it spins freely when the truck is in park and in 4wd with the front end raised then problem is in transfer case. If you can't make the diff engage manually with punch then the problem is in the diff. If front diff engages manually then the problem is the actuator. Hope this helps..

SOURCE: Front wheels do not turn

I did run the vehicle on the lift in 4wd. The actuator is trying to engage. I removed the right side axle housing and found the shim on the end of the shaft had fallen out of place. The small roller bearing in the shaft was damaged as well. This may have happended on a previous axle seal replacement. A new shim, and bearing fixed the problem. Thanks for our reply

SOURCE: Loud clicking noise when 4wd is engaged on left wheel when turnin

Check your cv (constant velocity joint) , It may have a big clearance which is the source of the noise when turning left or right and when 4wd is engage. Juts like front wheel drive cars, if the cv joint is with clearance it will tend to sound in the left or right turns. It is not exactly clicking sound , nmore like knocking sound , low in pitch, but not heavy.

SOURCE: Front drive, 4 Wheel drive won't engage

Check the switch on the transfercase remove the vacume lines if there is oil in them the switch has to be replaced and the lines should be cleaned out you should also check under the battery tray to make sure the boot is not ripped that controls the leaver to engage the front axel

I have 2003 RA Holden Rodeo 3.0 ltr T/Diesel. The 2 front wheels don't seem to be engaging when i put it into 4wd (high or low range). I can hear the high and low range click in when i press the buttons...

Does yours have AUTO hubs, there are some luxory models have auto hubs, these rely on difference in drive on the axles,(wheel spin) others have manual locking hubs, these actually need to be engaged manually, these require you to twist the centre of the hub to engage and disengage the front hubs, these sometimes require you to reverse to disengage properly, Rodeo had both depending on model. My 4x4 hubs won't lock on my 96 Isuzu rodeo

I assume they are manual locking hubs? Once you engage the hubs and select 4WD you must reverse a few meters and you will hear them click into place, If they don't lock in your hubs may need servicing, They are quite easy to dismantle and re-grease which you can do yourself if you are handy with mechanical buts and pieces.

2005 Trailblazer XT won\'t go into 4WD. Front hubs don\'t engage with switch in cab. It will gear down to 4wd Lo but front wheels won\'t engage. Please help. Can\'t afford the dealer!

i've been told it was the 4wd actuator located on the passenger side near were the cv joint goes in to the front axle a good test is to floor jack it up so both wheels are off the ground and have someone on the other side , put in nutrual turn both wheels one way at same time and the 4wd drive shaft should turn if not its your actuator, costs about $86 for anew actuator and takes about 5 mins to change once you have the tire off
