Question about 2003 Oldsmobile Alero

1 Answer

Car quit. Acted like it wasn't getting any gas.

The car started fine, got about a block from work and pushed the accelerator and it didn't respond like it should have and it was loosing momentum, then it might respond some and pick up speed but then it would die down again. I pulled it into a parking lot and turned it off hoping I could restart and it might reset a sensor or something, but it would start and immediately die. It did this a couple of times, then only turned over but would never start. Now it won't even turn over. We did hook it to jumper cables for a short time (probably should have left it longer) and it was turning over again but wouldn't start. It is back to not turning over.

Also, I don't know if this will change the answer at all, but the night before when I was driving the car there was a louder hum or vibration that isn't normally there - almost like a high idle, but not the same noise. I opened my window to see if I could hear it better but I could not. I could only hear it when I had my windows rolled up and my radio off.

It was the fuel pump. I had them fix it and got my car back yesterday. Thank you.

well now it sounds like you have a fuel filter that is plugged because the humming you were hearing was the fuel pump trying to pick up the fuel from the tank and it was just sucking air. so take your car and get the fuel pump and filter replaced and i garentee your car will run again.

Car randomly accelerates without pushing down on pedal and cruise control is not working

It sounds to me like a problem with cruise control? Turn it off and/or unhook it, drive it a bit and see if accelerating problem goes away? If it does, you need to troubleshoot the cruise control. Any applicable trouble codes?
That sounds dangerous to me, I'd disable the cruise control till you find the problem.
I don't know what testing you have done?

1993 Mazda MX-3 won't start

Check for spark at the sparkplug, to see if everything in the dist. is working right. And check the injector harness for something being pulled loose when the wires were jerked out.

I have a 02 lancer oz rally. Yesterday I left work stopped at a gas station and filled up. As I went to leave I put the car in first gear with no problem but when I pushed the clutch again to stop the car...

hydraulic clutch
replace the master and slave cylinders
cable clutch
replace the cable
if cable also check the engine mounts for failure as if the engine is allowed to move , the clutch action is affected

CAr is sluggish and wont respond when going up hills or accelerating over 65mph.Is this a spark plug issue?

This happened to my 2003 Trailblazer at about 70,000 miles. Going uphill it would slow down and then downshift as it dramatically lost power. Bottom line, the Catalytic Converter was plugged. When first accelerating it ran fine but after that it acted up and got continually worse. You didn't mention if the service engine light came on or not. Something else that might cause the no power is the fuel filter may be plugged. Change it first as it is cheap compared to the converter. Good luck.
