SOURCE: i turn on my windshield wipers and i can hear the

It is most likely one of two things

  1. The wipers have come loose on the shafts. Lift the plastic cover at the end of the wiper blade that attaches to the wiper transmission and turn the wipers on. If the shaft and/or nut is turning, then you can simplt tighten the nut to get them working.
  2. the arm from the motor has popped off. Remove the wiper arms by removing the nut mentioned above and pull up on the wiper slightly while LIGHTLY tapping on the shaft with a small hammer. (Be VERY careful not to damage the threads on the shaft.) Then remove the plastic cowl cover. You will then see the shaft that goes from the wiper motor to the wiper transmission assembly. If it is popped off, it can be popped back on again, but it probably will not stay. It is recommended that you replace the arm.

Wipers not working

Either the linkage has come loose(most are held in place with plastic caps) or the wiper motor arm has stripped. If you can see the linkage is moving, then the wiper arms are stripped.

My windshield wipers dont come on all the time

Check the connector of the wires by the wiper motor,
if you have access to the motor and the wiper switch is on and motor won't move tap it lightly with a small hammer and if it starts you need another wiper motor.

The windshield wipers to my Ford focus stopped working today. They worked for a little while & then stopped in the up position. You can hear the motor working but they don't move. You can move them...

Your wiper linkage has come off the wiper motor. To reconnect the linkage, first remove the wiped arms, the remove the wiped cowl. The wiper cowl bolts are located under the hood and screws through the spaces in the cowl. Reconnect linkage, reinstall cowl, reinstall wiped arms.

My wipers won't work in my 98 altima. the washer fuild will come out but arms don;t move

check for power at the wiper motor, if power to motor check wiper motor it may be bad. when checking power to motor, you have to turn on switch to check for power. if no power to motor, then it is either a fuse, bad wiring, or a bad switch for wipers.

My windshield wipers stopped working, but i can hear something come on when i cut them on, but they dont move... i dont even know how to get to the wiper motor to even check it out! car is extra...

I am not sure on this specific vehicle but the wiper motor on all cars connects to linkage to convert the motor energy to the wipers. Most likely what happened if you here the motor moving is the linkage came loose from the motor. This is usually an easy fix once you find the motor it is usually on the drivers side fire wall up high under the hood.

My front wipers do not work, the washer on the front and the rear wiper works fine, they are all on the same thing

HI. This is a possible motor issue. To confirm, use this procedure. it will help isolate the actual issue at hand.

1.Make sure the battery has a strong charge and is in good condition. Use a voltmeter to get a reading if necessary.

2.Connect a jumper wire between ground and the wiper motor. Turn the key on but don’t start the engine. Turn the wiper switch on. If the motor works, check for a corroded or loose ground connection.

3.Turn on the car key but don’t start the engine. Turn on the wipers. Check for voltage at the wiper motor with your voltmeter. If you get a good voltage reading, turn the key off and disconnect the motor from the wiper linkage.

4.Move the wiper arms by hand. If they are stuck, you have found the problem. If the wiper arms move freely by hand, go to step 5. If voltage is not reaching the motor go to step 6.

5.Remove the wiper motor by disconnecting the plug and removing the bolts using a wrench or ratchet. Use a pair of jumper wires to connect the wiper motor directly to the battery. If the motor does not work, replace it.

6.Turn on the key but don’t start the engine. Get a voltage reading across the wiper switch. If there is voltage, use a jumper wire to bypass the switch, if the motor works now, replace the switch, otherwise go to step 7. If there is no voltage at the switch, go to step 8.

7.Check for continuity at the wire between the switch and the motor. The wire could be loose or disconnected.

8.Check the wire coming from the fuse panel to the wiper switch. It could be disconnected or loose.
