Need to check all the battery cable connections to ensure they are clean and tight. If this does not solve the issue, the starter may be bad. Have someone try to start the car while you tap on starter with a hammer. Sometimes, that will free up the starter drive and start the car. Tap firmly, but not with excessive force.

That means the starter solenoid is bad. You will have to replace the whole starter. Did you replace the battery with a brand new battery or just a different battery that wasn't new? Check with your local Firestone shop. They often have coupons available online or discounts on service work.

Is that the reason why the it seems like it draws the power and wont turn over

  • Bryan Webster Dec 12, 2012

Yes, if the solenoid is bad, it will draw the power, but will not turn over. Make sure the battery has a good charge and i it still will not turn over with the key, replace the starter.

My 2004 Lincoln ls has been acting up. First it was running rough so I changed coil on 4 and then 2 seven monthes later after which car ran great. Now on two occasions when triing to start alarm goes off...

I don't think going to AutoZone for codes is of much
value to anyone

Obviously your LS don't miss on 4 cyl or have 4 bad coils

You didn't need to replace any coils except the one that fails,
which is 1 or 2 a year on that car.

You most likely have one really bad coil that sets all kinds
of codes.

You can buy one new coil & walk it every couple days until
you get to the bad one or go to a repair shop with an oscilloscope
and the correct inductive coil adapter.

You need to use the correct OEM style plugs (NGK)
were the motorcraft mfg.

Check alternator output with a scope & make sure
the battery isn't more than 4 years old. Todays cars
are sensitive to voltage, current, resistance and grounds

Make a very long technical story short,
because I have the same car

You have 1 really bad COP Ignition Coil

$59.00 at auto parts and takes 15 min to install

You should have PO301 thru PO 308 Codes
as well as a lot of others

2003 Lincoln LS V8, Won't turn over after errors

Forget the four coils. That is a common problem, but I would question 4 failing.
The ABS ,Parking Brake,Speedo Etc,where nothing to worry about, you were loosing power, when it went to fail safe,so they came up.

ETC -is Electronic Throttle Control, your problem? Maybe
You will need to have a scanner put on it's,daignostic connector under the dash,to check for codes. Them only a trained technician can follow a chart or test proceedure to properly repair.
I have a 2004 LS,one of Ford most high tech and complicated vehicles.
Conclusion: only a professional can repair you car.
I would start with a local shop. If money you have money to throw away,go to a dealer.
Most likely have to wave to it on a flat bed carrier. Don't flat tow it.

I own a 2004 LS. You didn't get water into the PCM,because of rain or anything else. The PCM is behind the glove box, only the connectors are in the engine compartment and their under the housing for the cabin filter. They won't even get wet from rain.

The battery could fail any time, after say three years, for any reason.

Don't know about warranty, ordered mine from factory in 03.
