2000 OLDSMOBILE ALERO HEATER DOESNT WORK

First the fan only would work on high, which I knew was the resistor, not a big deal, and never replaced the resistor. Then one day, the fan stops working completely. Is this the resistor or something else? any ideas? checked all fuses

but if the resistor failed the fan would still work right? the fan would only work on high, which is the resistor. then it stopped working completely, so that probably means something else is broke too, right? not sure, confused

so for a 2000 alero, the resistor would control all speeds?

Yeah I am having the same problem with my 01 Alero.

I was -40 and I turned my car on and a weird noise was coming from my fan. My fan basically started to stall out and now I have nothing. No heat and no fan. Kind of sucks when it's this cold and you have leather seats....numb nuts

I have a simular problem, the fan only works on high, and now the car has to get up to a certain temp before the fan will start and even the rear defrost will work.

Did you say you replaced the resister or you did not? if you did not i would, but first i would run 12 volts strate from battery to heater motor and make sure motor runs if motor runs replace resister.

The new vehicles with a 5 speed fan run all the speeds through the resistor and these are a very common failure. You should be able to buy one at any parts store.

The new cars do not work like the old ones. On the old cars the blower resistor only controlled the lower speeds on the newer cars all the speeds are controlled by the resistor. The new style resistors are a circuit board that burns up.

is it normal that it burns up. I replaced the resistor last year and it was burnt. Now it is burnt again and broken. I don't know if there is a reason that it is getting fried or if that is just normal burnout....

I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero and the heater isn't working. The fan is not blowing out any air. Any suggestions ?

Check all your fuses. If all fuses are ok, then check power at the blower motor and ground at the blower motor. If ground and power are present then replace the bower motor if not check the relay and blower motor resistor.

2000 oldsmobile Alero, The fan control switch for the heater is not working on the to lowest speeds.

The blower motor resistor is bad.It is located on the passengers side by the blower motor. You will need to replace it.Just follow the blower motor noise when is is on and you will find the resistor very close to the blower motor. The wires from the blower go to the resistor. This is a common problem for most makes.Hope this helps.Good luck.

2003 Alero, heater blower only works on the two highest position?

The blower motor is located on the passenger side of the vehicle next to the blower motor. Run the fan on high and listen for the blower motor location if in question. The resistor will be mounted into the heater case and held in by two screws.
Good Luck

Heater control only works on high and fan doesnt blow heat thru the vents sounds like its a fan being blown in the wind.

100%: Heater Control on High Only?
This is the Blower Motor Resistor that needs to be replaced. It is located adjacent to the Blower Motor.

2000 Olds Alero. Cooling/Heating fan stopped

The blower is on the right hand side under the dash. You are right in thinking the blower resistor is the problem. The resistor is in the heater box behind the blower. Only 2 bolts hold it in but the back one can be a challenge to remove. The bolt is 5.5 mm.

Check for power and ground with a test light at the resistor connector. You should have power on the colored wires in the various switch positions. The black one is ground.
