Question about 2003 Dodge Caravan

2003 Dodge Grand Cravan - Will not start.

03 Grand Caravan 3.3L. Will not start. Starter does not engage, fuel pump doesn't prime...nothing. Battery is good and has been verified as such. Thought possibly ECM, installed a used one (our key is black so we were told it didn't need to be reprogrammed by a dealer) - no change whatsoever after installing new ECM. All fuses/relays look/test good... Any ideas??

Battery cable ends. these vans were famous for it. if you have factory soldered ends you might want to consider changing them

Thanks for the response. Could be... but all the accessories power up and work great (windows, lights, wipers, etc), and the terminals themselves do not look corroded. I will try putting some new ones on tomorrow though and hope for the best. Don't think thats our solution, but definitely willing to eliminate it from the list of possibilities ;-) Thanks

SOURCE: 1992 Dodge Grand Caravan engine failure

There is not fuse for pump but a relay in the relay block. I do suggest jumping to see if pump turns on. Test voltage from ECM if needed. If voltage is to pump, then pump is shot. If not voltage, relay may be bad

SOURCE: 2003 Caravan No Crank, 3.3L

This is a bad PCM. Try to disconnect the security system first and if it still does not start then it is the PCM.

SOURCE: 1992 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3l dies on highway.

Its normal for the pump to run for three seconds then shut off if the car engine is off. . This indicates that the fuel pump turned on and the pressure did reach specifications. If the pump did not reach pressure the pump would continue to run, You need to check for proper pressure with a gauge. If tthe pressure is ok then you have another issue like an ignition module or crank sensor if applicable. You may have to drive the car with the fuel gauge hooked up to see if you still have pressure when it dies.. I know you said you replaced the pump already but do you have the same issues as before you replaced it. This would indicate which direction you need to go now. If the same then its prabably not the pump.

Turn the key on , the fuel pump is computer controlled . The PCM - engine computer will energize the fuel pump relay for two seconds when you first turn the key on ! This primes the fuel system ! What would cause my 2003 Dodge Grand caravan se, 3.3l 6 cyl to start shaking and acting like its going to cut off

If no "check engine" light on, perhaps a new fuel filter would be a good place to start, and have fuel pressure tested if it doesn't help. More info, such as does it only on highway driving, or all the time, when was last tune-up, fuel system cleaned etc?

My 1996 Dodge grand caravan is not starting up but will turn over. I have installed a new crankshaft sensor, new fuel pump and still nothing. Coil pack is good. No spark from harness connecting to the coil...

Hello fellow auto mechanic. Let's take one step at a time .Your engine turns over because your starter is connected directly to your battery. It's possible that the crankshaft sensor was the the problem, but NO. Also new fuel pump well maybe but not yet. There may be more to this story and as always not what you may have done but what you don't know you have done.
First when you put your key into your ignition and turn to on you should here a noise at the back of your cars fuel tank. The sound will be a whiiiirrrrr sound indicating that your fuel pump is doing it's job and pushing fuel to the engine. It will be a very significant sound and you will know it when you here it. If this doesn't happen go to your power control center under your hood on LEFT side open it and you will find a relay for your fuel pump. This is an easy check because you can pull the relay for your horn LABELED the same, and use in place of your fuel pump relay to see if you can start your car. If this doesn't do it ,one more test look at the relays and find the ASD relay this is the main shut off to your vehicle. Now if this doesn't work it is very possible that you or whoever replaced your fuel pump may have crimped some wires or even forgot to hook up the the plug to the pump. This kind of stuff happens all the time, that's why people are always asking questions.Check the simple stuff first, and I believe you will find your problem. It's probably something very simple , don't get discouraged.
One more thing , why are there so many 96 Caravan problems? Please get back to me on the above and let me know if I have helped you. Don't forget to vote and GOOD LUCK.

I turn the key and dont do eniting ,after 3-4 times she star

If you mean that you turn the key to start but the starter motor doesn't engage the flywheel until the key is turned to start several times, try this. Look under the front of the car and locate the starter motor, which will be at the front of the oil pan. Tap the end of the starter motor with the handle of a large screwdriver a couple of times. If the starter then engages, the starter motor is bad. What happened to the last 99 Caravan (w/175,000 miles) was that a large amount of oily gunk had made its way into the part of the starter that housed the motor brush ***'y, preventing the motor brushes from moving freely and keeping one or more of them from making contact with the armature. The fix was to spray cleaner into the unit. That freed up the brushes and allowed the starter to work. That was a year ago. If you mean that the motor turns over, but doesn't start until you have tried 3 or for times, then I suspect a fuel problem. I have seen a problem where the fuel drains out of the fuel line when the car is off so that repeatedly turning the key to start runs the fuel pump which must refill the fuel line before it can reach the engine. Check the fuel pump, the fuel pump relay, etc. Or, locate the fuel pump relay, under the hood, on the driver side fender. Carefully remove the relay and remove the black plastic cover by lifting the two tabs. Carefully reinsert the relay, sans cover, and have an assistant turn on the key. If the contact "pulls in" then have your assistant remove the gas cap and listen as you manually close the contact with your finger. ( It's okay, the 12 volts won't shock you!) If they can hear a whirring sound, then the pump is working. Have someone start the car while you keep the relay engaged. Hope this helps. Dano

My 2003 dodge grand caravan wont start. All dash board lights work, radio works, and windows rolls down. Starter has been replaced and still nothing.

Is there power at the cable at the starter? Check for grounds by putting clamp from your test light to the negative side of battery & probe the cable at the starter, starter & solenoid, sounds like the solenoid isnt engaging, but if the starter motor isnt cranking either bring the starter to the auto parts store & have it bench tested.
