Code po301 cylinder no 1 has 80 psi all the other have 180 psi

I have a saturn vue 2007 4 cylinder manual transmission. 75000 miles. Check engine lights has been on for a long time. Just did a diagnosis and they found a code PO301-missfire on cylinder 1. tech ran the engine on a scope, no electrical missfound. tech removed all spark plugs. tech ran a compression test. no1 cylinder has 80 psi, all the other cylinder have 180 psi. tech ran a leak down test to find 85% leakage past the exhaust valves. They recommend doing a valve job on the car $2000 and possibly $2500! Any raccomandation. I am lost! Thanks

You explained it perfectly

The shop did all the correct diagnoses,
seldom see that at all,they did great job
of finding the issue

    I am quite shock that I may end up spending that much money. A problem like this, if it is indeed so costy,is a sign of bad engine design. I am lost becouse i didn't expect such an issue with a car that is not that old.

    Two things First you had a check light on & failed to check for codes & have any issues resolved in a week or so,that may be one reason your were your at The motors design could also be a contributing factor The years & mileage I will give you that one Not that old The cost !!! You just don't know the extent of time & what is involved to repair

    I think you drove for months with a cylinder misfire in #1 & it was you who ruined the motor

    Thank you for your time. Yes, I should have it checked sooner. But, the engine light was sometimes off. Anyway, do you think I should have it checked by someone else too, as a second opinion. Again Thanks for the time.

Replace spark plugs and wires. If thats not it, its your intake gasket. Mine did the same thing. I am working on putting my third intake gasket in my buick. 137740 miles

SOURCE: no compression in one cylinder

Timing belt slipped around cam pulley. Take off your timing belt cover and check the position. This would explain misfiring and compression loss. Stretched belt or missing cogs in belt likely culprit.

SOURCE: My son's 2000 Protege's check engine light came on

I recommend double checking the 02 sensor ( the one before the Cat) This item is the lead sensor when it comes to the ECU leaning or riching out the vehicle. The rest of the items they supplied you with can pretty easily be verified if you purchase the shop manual and follow its directions. NO SHORT CUTS, especially with the pressure regulator checks.

I bought a saturn vue with a Honda v6. I can't find the trans-axle dipstick where the manual says. can you help?

What'd you do rank yourself a guru? Cause you sure don't KNOW what you're talking about.
Honda V6 3.5 engine is in the 2004-2007 Saturn Vues with 6 cylinder engines. It is the ONLY V6 offered. The old version was from Opel.
The trans dip stick is on the right side of the engine while the oil stick is front left.

Your Vue could have several engine/trans configs; the GM 4-cylinder with 4 speed trans or VTi variable trans; all 2004-2007 V6 Vues' used a Honda drivetrain with very little issues. There were countless problems the the VTi transmission- my guess would be that's what you have and there were several recalls reguarding those issues; I would check with a dealer quickly...

If you are below 100 psi then you have a major leak inside the transmission. These will read upwards of 700 psi and require a special gauge to check line pressure. As far as fixing this there are limited parts available for this transmission and a replacement unit is big bucks. Take the car to your saturn dealer and see what they will do. These have a 5 year 75,000 miles warranty for the transmission, and most of them are covering up to and past 100,000 miles for customer satisfaction. If you dont know much or anything about this transmission do not attempt to repair it. Let the trained professional tech at saturn take care of this.
