Question about 2006 Toyota Matrix
My toyota matrix is shifting hard and the check engine light is on ?
You need to have the computer scanned for trouble codes to proceed.
Most auto parts stores can scan for free in hopes of selling you some parts.
Once you have the codes you can research them online.

This is a known condition. And, is under warranty.
Take your vehicle to a Toyota dealership. Ask them to replace your ECU per TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) TC015-07. The new ECU has redesigned logic that rectifys your condition.

SOURCE: Check Engine Light On
you have to go to a garage equiped with a scanner or code reader to retrieve the code that was stored in the car computer, and then resume to repair the problem accordingly. your car now is running in safe mode (not the best scenario)

You have to have the DTC pulled to see what made the light come on , ECU is a common problem on this vehicle,it is covered for 8 years/80,000 miles

That light tells you that your car is almost out of power. If it were a real problem, you would of know it by now. It probably is a bad censor if your carestill runs
