Question about 2005 Chevrolet Colorado

1 Answer

My 2005 Colorado brake lights will not turn off. I have replaced the switch and nothing changes...what could be wrong?

The brake light switch has been replaced and nothing has changed. The only way I can get them to go off is by pulling the fuse. What else could be the problem?

Is it possible the switch is not adjusted correctly ?
Are you getting power in and out of the switch without pressing on the pedal ?

I don't think the adjustment is the issue. I can't get the lights to turn off by pressing the switch in by hand, but I'm not sure about power in or out. I don't have access to a volt meter. Any suggestions?

The reason I asked is if the switch was not adjusted correctly it would be "on" all the time. You could also unplug the switch and see if the lights go off. Not much else can power the brake lights other than the brake switch or the turn signal switch.

That's the other thing that I forgot to mention. The brake lights won't even go off if the switch has been taken out. Is it possible the clip that is inserted in the clip is bad? Thanks for your help.....this is a frustrating problem

Does your truck have two switches? If so, one is for the brake lights and the other is for traction control.

Yeah it sure does. I have replaced the brake switch with two different switches, but have not replaced the other one.

this sounds like you have a ground issue either with one of the brake lights or the running lights, check all your sockets for bad ground wires.

Does a 2005 Chevy Colorado have a turn signal flashing unit/relay? The right turn signal lamp illuminates when the brake pedal is pushed.

Sounds like your tail light board may be shorted, switch the board to the other side to see if the problem follows the board or stays on that side if so it could be a faulty turn signal switch.

BRAKE LIGHTS DO NOT WORK, AND BULBS ARE GOOD AND FUSE.

The problem is in one of two areas. Either the brake light switch near the brake pedal is faulty or your ground is poor. Unless you are mechanically inclined the best and cheapest way to solve this is to go to any autoelectric shop. You can find them in the yellow pages under autoelectric.
