Question about 1994 Nissan Maxima
I have a 95 maxima. problem started about 2 weeks ago. started the car and noticed rough idle. on acceleration it felt like it was sputtering a little bit. at highway speeds it seemed to smooth out. the problem has gotten worse. about a week ago, driving home from work on the highway, cars rpm's started jumping up abd down and car would not acceleate , instead it would rev up and down. pulled over and shut off car. restarted and was able to drive for about 15 minutes before it started agin. got off my exit and driving locally, the car was reving up and down, i would describe it as bucking. about 5 miles later the car died. tried restarting several times. the car would start and then die. waitd 5 minutes, the car started and was able to get home, still sluggish. i have a mass air flow sensor code and 6 cylinder misfire code. did coil pack test by unplugging and checking for idle change. 6 cylinder no change in idle, so figured that was problem. swapped 6 cylinder coil pack with 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder still bad 4th worked, so the coil pack is fine. pulled plug from 6 cylinder and it doesn't seem bad. don't feel it's the pack or plug after swapping packs and the original pack from 6 worked in 4th.could it be a bad injector. would taht cause these symtoms. if so, what are the steps to test injectors and what are the steps to replace. the car has 175,000 miles thanks
The injector could definitely trigger a misfire code, but you also mentioned that you had a mass airflow sensor code , that code code be responsible for te sluggish moment of the vehicle and rpm going up and down. However if you have a misfire onCyl#6 and the coil and the plug is good the ONLY other thing to cause a mis-fire would be the injector. To check the injector get a NOID light, you can get one at almost any auto-parts place. To use unplug injector plug from the bad injector and connect it to NOID light the light should have a steady PULSE/ligt flickering. If light flickers fine then injector is bad and will need to be replaced. If light doesn't flicker or flickers intermittently then you may have a bad wiring to that injector. Check if wiring is good, then you may have a bad cam sensor or sensor gear. Good Luck and contact if you need more help. Thanks for using FIX YA
