Question about 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier

Open Question

2001 Chevy Cavalier water mixed with oil

I am helping my mother in law fix her 2001 Chevy Cavalier. It started overheating and leaking water. I checked the car and the water came from the water pump so I replaced it. Now looking at the car because it started giving engine code p0300, I pulled the spark plugs and # 4 was full of oil. So I checked the oil and water mixed with the oil. Could this be just a bad head gasket? or would she need to replace the cylinder head? What should I check on the car? I'm helping her so she can keep repair cost low but I don't want to cause more damage.

SOURCE: my engine oil looks like chocolate milke shake

In some cases I have seen blown intake manifold gaskets cause a milkshake in the crankcase inspect the lower intake gaskets coolant passages at the end of the cylinder heads for damage. I would suggest a compression test and a cylinder leak down test befor further tear down.

SOURCE: 2000 Chevy Malibu- check engine light

Have the DIS module checked and the coil pack for cyl 3. If either/both of those need replaced, have it done and have the codes cleared. Then see if it clears the others.

You may need a TPS (throttle position sensor) as well.

when run with a misfire, the cat will get loaded up with fuel, it takes awhile for it to burn out, and a code may set, on some occasions it ruins the converter, try clearing it and running it

Motor oil spewing onto the engine. my car is a 1996 chevy cavalier and well maintaned. it has a radiator leak also. could the antifreeze be mixing with engine oil

Unfortunately, this sounds like you have a bad head gasket. The motor oil is most likely mixing with the antifreeze as well. This also explains the antifreeze leak.

I wish I had better news for you! :(

My 2001 chevy cavalier has a oil leak and I can't

You can buy a florescent dye to add to the oil and a light to make the dye really shine.
Clean the engine with "brake clean" from a spray can at the oil leak areas ....then run the engine.
Check for the start location of the leak.
Start with a short run time ....... then longer run time if necessary until the leak(s) show.
With or with out the dye ......this brake cleaning method should help locate the leak(s).

Oil leak locations could order of the most common on your car are........valve cover gasket, oil filter, oil pressure sending unit, drain plug, oil pan gasket, crank pickup sensor, rear seal.

My mother in laws Jeep is overheating and she had someone look at it and said the "Overflow is not mixing with the Radiator" How do I fix this problem

Have you tried removing rad cap when cool & adding coolant while engine running & heater on. let it run through 2 or 3 cycles of rad fan coming on & off before you put cap back on. As far as coolnt return not working properly, possible bad rad cap, or kink in return hose, have a look if that is the problem.

Water leaking from a freeze plug and water in the oil pan in a 283 small block chevy engine

If you have a bad or leaky freeze plug, also known as soft plugs, it needs to be replaced. Your brass plugs are the best, and in some hard to get to places there are rubber plugs that can be adjusted to fix the problem. But if you have oil in the oil pan, assuming no one put water in the engine. You probably overheated the engine enough to acquire a cracked head gasket. Normaly that's the problem, could be a cracked head also, but more than likely a gasket. If you decide to remove the heads and replace the gaskets, good idea to have the heads resurfaced.
