Well it needs good spark [distributor cap] .it needs fuel check preasure .and the only other thing is a plugged cataletic converter. < was it loseing power before it stopped working . other wise i think its the distributorcap and rotor.

I recommend checking your fuel pressure to see if its pumping enough fuel to run the engine. The fuel pump might be working, but if its not pumping enough pressure, it wont keep it running

Cranks but wont start

Whenever your car won't start, it is either fuel, spark, or air. In your case, because it died while driving and won't run very long, I think it's spark. I would guess that your alternator is no longer providing enough voltage to charge the battery, hence your battery acting like it's dead, and your car not wanting to run long when you do get it started. Use a multimeter to check the voltage coming from the alternator when the car is running. It should be 14.5V or so. If it is down around or lower than 13, replace the alternator.

At speeds of 40mph starts chugging a bit wondering if it could be air filter or coil pack

first thing to try is the fuel filter, if its partly blocked some fuel will pass allowing for some speed, but after more fuel is needed it cant pass fast enough so your car will chug or act like its cutting out, my 94 explorer would run fine up to 35mph, but after that it acted like it didnt have power and even died a few times i changed the fuel filter and the issue went away AGCO Automotive Repair Service Baton Rouge LA Detailed Auto Topics What...

REPLACED STARTER THEN RECHARGED BATTERY CAR STARTED FINE THEN DROVE FINE THEN GAGES ON DASH STARTED GOING CRAZY ALONG WITH RADIO THEN CAR ACTING LIKE IT WANTS TO DIE NOW WONT START

sounds like your battery is dying,, have it LOAD tested,, it could show 12 volts, but the amperage isn't up to par,, even with one bad cell the battery will drain , also,, once you know its fully charged, start the vehicle,, use a meter at the battery posts to check the voltage,, you should get a reading of 13.5-14.5 volts, if not your alternator isn't doing its job, make sure all battery connections are clean and tight.

When it's warm... It DIES

If you couldn't get your money I would never go there again, it sounds as if there is a possible head gasket problem. I don't know those codes but there is a website on the web that has explanations of those.

reach to the underside of your egr valve and feel to see if the diaphragm moves as it warms up. if not you may need to replace it. be careful not to bur yourself though, the engine and egr can get very hot very quickly

if you can get the car started again and with someone helping you have them take the positive side of the battery cable off while it is running and if it dies then it is the alternator also check your drive belt and when was the last time it was changed because it could be slipping
