when you depres the brake pedal do yoiu hear a clicking noise in the steering column? (this noise would be a sign of the shift interlock solenoid functioning)? are all of the brake light bulbs working? (it wont let you shift without all brake bulbs working)....you can overide this shift feature by turning key to on position, without starting vehicle, shift into neutral, then into your desired gear. i hope this helpos your some! good luck!

Check your switch under the dash by the Brake pedal. Sometimes your foot can dislodge the switch. It happens alot to both men and women. Once you get the brake lights to work the rest should follow. This is all part of the Safety Interlock system.

The 4 ways-Push the 4 way switch 5 or 10 times to get it to work again. Everything seems to go through this switch. When it is pushed and locked into position it "Derails" another set of contacts inside for your Brake lights and turn signals.

If you need to replace the 4-way switch it is part of the MPS multi purpose stalk. Unfortunately this can be an expensive switch but is easy to obtain, Salvage yards may be the cheapest. You will need to unscrew the plastic cover on the steering column and there are Torx recessed screws holding the fixture to the steering column. Depending on how the plastic cover splits off the column you may need to temporarily remove the Ignition tumbler.

Until you get the Brake lights to work you may have to use the old fashion Hand Signal for stopping. Probably no one under 60 years old will know what you are doing. Good luck with this and I hope I have helped you.

SOURCE: Why my 2007 police crown Vic won't shift out of

All 2000 and up vehicles utilize a Solenoid which is powered by depressing the Brake Pedal to allow the Shift Lever to be move from Park to any other position. Is the Shift Lever located on the Steering Column or the Floor? In either case typically the Solenoids used by Ford do occasionally go bad. I highly recommend having a certified technician replace the solenoid.

Check your brake lights, if they don\'t work the interlocking system will not let you shift from park. If brake lights don\'t work probably the brake lamp switch on the pedal shaft. Check power in and out of switch when stepping on pedal, if nothing coming out, swi

2003 CROWN VIC IS STUCK IN PARK! WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM?

The sensor on the brake pedal is not working. The brake pedal must be pushed before the shift level will release and allow shifting. If you are holding in the brake but it is not letting you shift, the brake activation switch is not working properly and, therefore, not allowing you to shift out of park.

It is also possible that the fuse for the brake lights is out and not activating the switch but this is less likely.

Good luck,

-Mark

ok you can have a few things wrong. First have some one step on brake pedal see if brake lights come on. If not these vehicles were bad about the wires braking to the brake light switch. After check ing lights and you have found the are operating correctly, try turning igintion key cylinder to first notch just before dash lights come on, now see if you can shift out of park if so the shift interlock solienod on back of column is bad. Lastly if the sifter is really loose they are two 30 torx screws on the back of the column hold the bracket to the shift cable, if that comes off or loose you can not shift as well. Hope this helps if so please vote thank you

SOUNDS LIKE SHIFT INTERLOCK SOLENOID IS STUCK. TRY GIVING A FEW HITS AND PUSH ON AND OFF ON BRAKE PEDAL AND SEE IF YOU CAN FREE IT UP. JAR IT AROUND A BIT LIKE TRYING TO WIGGLE IT OUT WHICLE PUSHING ON AND OFF ON BRAKE PEDAL SEVERL TIMES. DO YOU HEAR A CLICK IN CENTER CONSOLE WHEN PUSHING BRAKE?
