check the coolant level fiirst...if that is low it wont give you any heat.....to change the thermostat you have to follow the top radiator hose to the engine.at the send of it you will see a clamp take it loose...then you will see the thermostat housing its held in place by 2 bolts . once you remove them you have the thermostat....make sure you clean all the old gasket material off both the housing and mount.also make sure you get a new gasket.

Yes, it can be removed and run without the thermostat. However, your gas mileage will suffer and the heater may not work very well.

SOURCE: how to change thermostat on a 2002 Pontiac Montana

I believe the Montana has a 3.4 Liter V6 Engine.
This thermostat is located under the exhaust "crossover" pipe that runs between both the front and rear cylinder heads. Divers side.
Remove the heat shields (10mm bolts) and then the nuts on the exhaust studs. (6 total)
Two bolts hold the T stat housing to the intake.

Follow the radiator hose back to the engine. Where the hose meets the engine is where the thermostat is. Should be two or three bolts holding the fixture on. Inside of that fixture is the thermostat. Make sure the engine is cooled down and make sure to replace the coolant that you will lose changing this. Easy fix.

How to change a bad thermostat on a 2003 3.4L pontiac montana

put in a radiator flush ,run it for 20 miles it can be a blocked core in both the radiator and the heater.that should clean it. then refill with a 50/50 mix anti freeze then bleed it of air. put your heater on full .run the engine on tick over.then push in the radiator hose to push the air out of the expansion bottle cap .it is off . then refit your cap.

you have a GM common problem and that is a bad intake manifold gasket. GM change the gaskets to plastic and they crank and leak causing over heating. here is a picture of one i took from a 2005 pon. bonneville with 74,000 miles on it2_12_2013_3_00_09_am.jpg
