Question about 1992 Acura Legend

Open Question

ACURA LEGEND coolant leaking from back of engine

When adding coolant it leaks from back of motor. It is pouring out after a "pop" noise was heard. Attempts to refill are useless. Could it be a freeze out plug?

SOURCE: Honda mechanics state that my

your water pump is leaking and most likely you had a small oil leak under there also and now the coolant is washing it out, don't go too long with these leaks because your timing belt is under there and is getting soaked with oil and and coolant this will break or slip off causing major engine damage to result (i.e bent valves) good luck and please rate -jeff

You popped something when car overheated. Sure it is not water(coolant) that is leaking? If so check your water hoses and connectors.

Coolant leak, coolant poured out bottom of car..problem? pump?

Sure could be. Or a hose or a gasket somewhere.
You'll need to fill up the radiator and run the engine to look for the leak.
It may have to get up to operating temp before you see anything.

Im having isues with my 1994 acura legend over heating

check and bleed your coolant. take of radiator cap, start the car witht the heat on defrost and set to max and let the car fully warm up to operating temp adding coolant to radiator as needed. If that doesnt fix it then change your thermostat. $20 part from autozone with gasket. to do this: follow upper radiator hose to motor, where it connects on is your thermostat housing, unbolt the thermostat housing and replace thermostat. Simple procedure but do it when the car cools down or you'll burn your hands with coolant (which will pour everywhere when you take the hose off) after that is done, rebleed system and add coolant as needed. not hard to do at all

My 1994 acura legend is running hot and the coolant is spelling over from the tank. What is the cause?

the biggest problem with the 3+liter honda engines of old is the weak head gaskets used on them..very rare you dont find one smoking or over heating..while the car is cool remove radiator cap and look for trace of oil.then start car with cap off and look for air bubbles.if either then its a bad gasket

My 1994 Acura Legend keeps running hot. Gauge

When the car is completely cool,check the electric fan(s) for smooth rotation.

Clean/check/change the thermo sensor,contact and wire.

===

Excavate air pocket in coolant system / check for head gasket leak

This test will kill two birds with one stone.

===

MAKE SURE THE COOLANT SYSTEM and ENGINE IS COLD!

RAN THIS TEST IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA ONLY!

You will spill some coolant during this air pocket purge test.......BE KIND TO THE ENVIRONMENT and ANIMAL please clean up after the test!

===

Put the front end on a pair of ramp or park your car on a VERY STEEP HILL (radiator facing top of the hill) .

Top of the coolant reserve tank

Let it ran for 10-15 minutes.

Monitor for air pockets escaping from coolant reserve tank.

Small amount of bubbles is OK at 1-5 minute mark

After the thermostat open up (after 195 F warm up) at
5-12 minute mark or after high idle you should see less bubbles.

If you do not see any in rush of bubbles then your thermostat may be partially stuck or rusted badly inside the thermostat hosing.

Give the thermostat host few gentle taps.

If you see larger bubbles surfacing after 15 minutes then should do a hydrocarbon (HC) dye test to test for potential head gasket leak.

Let engine cold down and top off coolant reserve tank.

Start monitor for coolant lost

===

A coolant flush is require every 2 years or 24,000 miles.

I recommend the thermostat that has a relief pop-let to reduce the change of burst radiator and coolant hoses.

Make sure you get a new thermostat gasket,black RTV and fresh coolant for the job.

Car is over heating back boiling

My 1994 Acura Legend over heats. There isn't any coolant in the oil, nor white steam coming out of the tail pipe. All hoses are tight and no leaks are noted. The fans are working properly. However, there is back boiling in the radiator and loss of coolant...

What is causing this ?
