We are changing the rear brake pads on a 1998 ford falcon I want to know do the calipers move if so how do they move to put pads in

Most falcon rear disc calipers require a special tool that fits into the piston then a 1/2 inch drive ratchet used to spin the piston while pushing in . You should be able to uy this from most auto parts outlets.

I am changing my fron brakes on an Audi A3 1.8 1998 model and want to know the allen key size for the caliper?


For front brake pads replacement you need only usually wrench set, inclusive 7 mm allen key also. But for rear brake pads replacement you need obligatory a special caliper piston pressing tool, in order to press back rear caliper piston with parking brake automatic adjustment!!! For front brake pads. First you must verify yours front brake disc diameter: 280 mm or 288 mm. (On my car y have 288 mm). After that you can buy the brake pads (with wear sensor). For change front brake pads you must raise vehicle, remove wheels, extract the retaining spring of the caliper, and remove the caliper as follow:
1. Do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper, and do not allow the caliper to hang by the brake hose!
2. Remove top and bottom caps (on back side of the caliper) for access to guide pins, then unbolt and remove them from the brake carrier. Remove the caliper.
3. Now you must thoroughly clean the brake calipers (free of grease).
4. Remove outer brake pad from brake carrier.
5. Pull inner brake pad out of brake caliper piston.
6. Check up the brake fluid level on the reservor, and emptying if neccessary!
7. Push piston back into brake caliper housing.
8. Install inner brake pad (with expanding spring) in brake caliper piston. (Arrow marked on pad - if exist, must point in direction of brake disc rotation when vehicle is moving forward).
9. Install outer brake pad into brake carrier.
10. Bolt brake caliper housing to brake carrier using two guide pins. Tightening torque is 25 Nm.
11. Install both caps.
12. Insert retaining spring into brake caliper housing. Important: Depress the brake pedal firmly several times while the car is stationary so that the brake pads adjust to their normal operating positions!!! Check brake fluid level and top up if neccessary!!!

break lug nuts loose
jack up car place stand under car
remove lug nuts and wheel
remove brake caliper
take out pad on outside of caliper
place a brake caliper press on pad next to piston of caliper and compress piston back in caliper
remove press and replace pads
reinstall caliper and wheels set car down
REMBER TO GET IN AND PUMP BRAKE PEDAL A COUPLE TIMES OR YOU WILL NOT HAVE ANY BRAKES WHEN YOU MOVE YOUR CAR!!!!!!
check fluid in master cylinder
take your time

How do i change both front and rear brake pads on a 2004 mazda rx8?


CHANGING FRONT BRAKE PADS
Jack up the car. Take off your tire. Find the bolt on the back of the caliper and take it off. This should release the caliper, pull the caliper off the disc. Now you should be able to take the pad out. Replace the pad. You'll need a special tool to reset the caliper. As the brakes wear down, the caliper gets tighter so the brakes still work. I'm not sure exactly what its called, but you can borrow one from auto zone. Follow the instructions that come with it to reset the caliper. Slide the caliper back over the disc. If it doesn't go on, you need to reset the caliper more. Put the relese bolt back in. Put your tire back on.Drive slowly and test the brakes.
CHANGING THE REAR BRAKE PADS
The rear brakes on the rx8 are a bit different than most setups...be careful! The only way to move the piston back into the caliper is by way of a special allen head bolt that is directly behind the piston, on the back side of the caliper, installed under a 14mm bolt.
You have to remove this bolt to gain access to the allen head. As you loosen the allen head bolt(counter-clockwise), the piston will move back into the caliper.
Installation is pretty typical, again, the allen head bolt being the unusual part. The manual says to tighten this bolt until the pads contact the rotor, then loosen the bolt 1/3rd of a turn, then reinstall the 14mm bolt.

How to replace rear brake pads


Jack up car, remove wheel. There are two bolts that hold the caliper on. Remove these. Caliper comes off, take old pads out. There is a special tool to compress the piston back into the caliper (do not use a C Clamp on the rears.) Put new pads back on, re-install the caliper, and put the wheel back on. Pump the brake pedal until it is firm. Done.

Brakes new but still make a rubbing noise


Some brake pads have a small pin sticking up for the e brake that pad must be on the outside when not installed for the e brake or the caliper will not push it out straight. Remove the pads and check for wear on the caliper face and make sure you have them installed correctly I put a pad in backwards once it worked but made a noise

No rear brakes and handbrake all the way up


Whenever you change pads, you must always pump the pedal several times to get the calipers to take up any excess space between the pad and rotor. You'll fill it in the pedal as they pump up.

1998 s70 rear brake pad change.


  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and, if equipped with ABS, remove the key to prevent accidental pump activation.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the wheel(s).
  4. Disconnect any ABS wires, if equipped.
  5. Clean the brake caliper thoroughly and remove the dust caps from the bleeder nipple.
  6. Open the bleed nipple and lock the brake pedal the depressed position. Collect the brake fluid spillage in a suitable container.
  7. Remove the brake pads and disconnect the brake pipes from the caliper.
  8. Remove caliper mounting bolts and lift the caliper off.
  9. Drain the remaining brake fluid in the caliper into suitable container.
To install:
  1. Clean the caliper mount where the caliper lies.
  2. Install the caliper and new mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 44 ft. lbs. (60 Nm).
  3. Connect the brake line to the caliper and tighten to 10 ft. lbs. (14 Nm).
  4. Grease the brake pad shims with a thin layer of silicon grease. Put the shims on the back of the pads and install them in the caliper.
  5. Install one retaining pin, spring then the other retaining pin.
  6. Fill the brake master cylinder and bleed the brake system.
  7. Connect any ABS wires, unfastened earlier.
  8. Install the wheels.

Rear brakes


parking brake cable is seized or improperly installed.... check that.
I'm uncertain what you mean about the calipers.... but having to push the cyclinder back in to change the pads is normal..... do one at a time. after you have installed the pads, pump the brake then do the other ..... check your brake fluid level when you are done as well.

Rear calipers


Yep - Ford uses screw-in rear pistons on the calipers. You can go to AutoZone and rent the piston retracting tools to get the calipers back in where they need to be. Look at the face of the piston - see the two notches across from each other? That's where the pins on the retracting tool will sit, so that you can screw them in. Make sure you remove the brake fluid reservoir cap to make it easier to screw them in, and then put it back on as soon as you're done.

some of this brake caliper, have to be turned and push at same time in order to push the cylinder in.
go to autozone and they have a loan tool program that will allow you to loan the tool for a deposit and then you will get it back when tool returned
