SOURCE: wont shift out of park

Same thing happened to me. I had accidentally kicked something while streching out my right leg. It turns out there is an actual switch somewhere up above your feet directly above the brake pedal area that I had toggled when streching my leg!

Because I knew that it must have been that I kicked something, I was reaching under there, above near the brake pedal and eventually, miraculously found a little switch, which when toggled again, allowed me to get the car out of park and drive away.

I have yet to find any reference to this in the owners manual or online yet, but it's a fact.
I tried to find the switch again a moment ago, but could not - had to get back into work as I had been stranded on the road for the last half hour.

SOURCE: My dodge caliber gear shifter wont come out of

I had the same problem on my 2007 dodge caliber. If you look in the manual there are some directions for this, but simply, next to your gearshift on the passenger side there is a circle in the dash. Pry this out and there is a lever to release the shifter. You will need to probably replace a switch that attaches to the upper part of your brake.(It is a cheaply made part with plastic) I can't think of the name of it right now. It cost me about $17 at the dodge dealership for the part. It only takes about 10 minutes to repair, but you should get a mechanic to do it because it has to be adjusted correctly or the part is worthless. I hope that this helps! (you may have already figured it out since it's been 10 days since you posted)

MY SHIFTER WONT COME OUT OF PARK UNLESS I USE THE EMERGENCY

Dodge, like almost everyone else, makes what is called shift interlock for automatic transmissions. This is to prevent a small child from accidentally shifting the vehicle out of park without having their foot on the brakes. Then Dodge made 2 safety helps for when that shift interlock might fail. First none is that you can pull up on the emergency brake, this allows you to put the vehicle in gear and continue on your way. The second is a small round access hole in the passenger footwell side of the hump when removed it will let you unlock the solenoid manually. The shift interlock is an electric solenoid that is energized by the brake switch so you need to have it looked at to see if it is a bad switch, solenoid, or maybe even just a fuse. Good luck

Key won't turn, won't shift from Park

My 2003 Saturn l200 2.2 ecotec did this when the battery was dead. Put some juice on the battery, then the car came out of park, and I was able to remove the key. To the car, there's a vast difference between a sluggish battery and a dead battery. It may have enough amps to crank it, but it wont start w/out full output from the battery.

I have a 2008 dodge charger se. I try to start it and it wont start in park. I place it in neutral and it takes a few times to finally get it to crank. I replace the solenoid relay already and reset the...

The Neutral safety switch in the Transmission is the problem. If it doesn't send the signal to the computer when it is in park it won't crank over. Replace the Neutral safety switch and the problem should be resolved. Make sure you check the linkage for proper adjustment if you have a center console shift. That doesn't actually connect directly to the transmission except through a linkage and it may show to be in park but not actually be fully engaging in park. Sometimes you can turn the lower part of the steering column by hand to get it to lock fully in park if this is the case with your situation then for sure it is the linkage being out of adjustment.

Car will not go into gear while running

Check your brake lights. There is a switch on the brake pedal that actuates a release solenoid for the shifter. If this switch is bad, it won't shift out of gear and most likely the brake lights won't work.
Replacing this switch should fix your problem.

Gear shift will not move from park

First thing to check is your brake lights. The brake interlock for the shifter relies on the switch that turns your brake lights on. If it's not working, you won't have brake lights OR the ability to move the shifter out of park. In an emergency, most of these vehicles have a small plug near the shifter that you can remove, push a button, and move the shifter without pushing the brake pedal.

Good luck.

Hi. My Dodge Caliber 2008 only start un neutral position. In Park position doesn't display "P" in the panel. Thanks!

could be the shifter needs an adjustment to line up properly - alternatively it may be the switch is loose when you put it into part, so that it doesn't click to release the "lock" indicator allowing the vehicle to start in park position... I think it is the alignment - needs adjustment.
