SOURCE: timing marks for the Dodge 2.4L caravan, 2000

To align both sets of timing marks, turn engine crankshaft to the right with belt on cam and crank. Once you have done this the crankshaft alignment mark (on front of crankshaft gear) will line up with mark to the rear of gear on engine block. The two cam gear timing marks should be alines across from one another. The right cam gear is the intake side and the left side is the exhaust side. After removing the belt turn the exhaust cam down 1/2 notch. Timing mark on exhaust 1/2 notch down from the intake side. Install new belt and recheck everything to make sure it's all correct. Hope this will help you.

How I line my timing chain marks on a 2002 Dodge intrepid 2.7 litter

The timing is set by aligning the marks on the camshaft gears and the crankshaft gear with colored links on the chain. See the included link for guidance (it's for a Sebring, but the information is the same for an Intrepid). Be aware that rotating the engine after initial timing will change the relationship of the colored links with the gears. This is OK, just BE SURE THAT THEY ARE ALIGNED when the chain is INITIALLY installed. Chrysler Sebring Concorde 300 2 7L timing replacement Cloyes kit 9 0397SA

I have a 2001 Dodge Durango my sprockets dots are where they are supposed to be but the white dots on my chain or not do the white dots on the chain matter

I Assume you have a 4.7 liter V8, have you taken the chains or gears off yet, if so, did you line everything up before disassembly and lock the gears with a locking fixture and chock the chains in the guides? yes, all the dots and marks matter. it is an interference engine which means if the cams are out of time with the crankshaft, severe valvetrain/piston damage can result when started. get out the manual and go over all the marks and be absolutely sure everything is exactly lined up before trying to start. turn the engine over by hand at least 2 full revolutions to check for interference , then recheck all timing marks again. before cranking with the starter motor. timing is critical on the 4.7, if its off, bad thing can happen, please take your time and be careful

Time a dodge 4.7 litter

If you just want to check the timing marks on your Dodge 4.7L engine, skip ahead to step #32 of the procedure below.

I found this Dodge 4.7L engine info in a manual for the 2000 Durango 4WD
MFI 8 Cylinder, but whatever year your SUV/truck may be, all Dodge 4.7's should be the same.
I tried to post the entire procedure (with 5 illustrations), but got an error.
Happy Thanksgiving FunnyJennifer/Josh, and may your 4.7 keep perfect time.

Excerpt from Timing Chain & Sprocket Removal & Installation:
Dodge Durango 4.7L MFI 8 Cylinder
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
#32 Rotate the engine two full revolutions. Verify alignment of all timing marks:

Primary chain idler sprocket: dot at 12 o'clock

Primary chain crankshaft sprocket: dot at 6 o'clock

Secondary chain camshaft sprockets: V8 marks at 12 o'clock

I need the diagram for the balance chain timing

Except Premier
Procedures applying to removal and installation of the auxiliary shaft drive chains are located under Auxiliary (Intermediate or Silent) Shafts Removal and Installation, later in this section.
2.5L Premier Engine (See Figures 1 through 5)

Fig. 1: To remove the timing chain, remove the timing chain case cover

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the fan shroud and cooling fan, as described earlier in this section.
  3. Remove the accessory drive belts. For more information, refer to .
  4. Remove the water pump pulley and crankshaft vibration damper, as described earlier in this section.
  5. Remove the timing case cover, as described previously in this section.
It is a good practice to either remove or cover the radiator area when performing extensive repairs to the engine to prevent accidental damage to the radiator core.
  1. Rotate the crankshaft until the 0 timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket is closest to and on a center line with the timing mark on the camshaft sprocket.
  2. Remove the oil slinger from the crankshaft.
  3. Remove the camshaft retaining bolt and remove the sprockets and chain as an assembly.
  4. If the timing chain tensioner is to be replaced, the oil pan must also be removed.
To install:
  1. Turn the tensioner lever to the unlock (down) position and pull the tensioner block toward the tensioner lever to compress the spring. Hold the block and turn the tensioner lever to the lock (up) position.
  2. Install the crankshaft sprocket, camshaft sprocket and timing chain together. Make sure the timing marks are aligned as indicated in Step 6 and in the accompanying illustration.
  3. Install the camshaft sprocket retaining bolt and washer. Tighten the bolt to 80 ft. lbs. (108 Nm).
  4. To verify correct installation of the timing chain, rotate the crankshaft until the camshaft sprocket timing mark is approximately at the 1 o'clock position. Count the number of chain link pins between the camshaft timing mark and the crankshaft timing mark, there should be 20 pins (2 per link) between the marks.
  5. Make sure that the timing chain tensioner switches to the unlocked position. If the tensioner does not switch automatically unlock, switch it manually to the unlock position.
  6. Install the oil slinger.
  7. Install the timing case cover, as described earlier in this section.
  8. Install the water pump pulley and crankshaft vibration damper, as described earlier in this section.
  9. Install and properly tension the accessory drive belts. For more information, refer to .
  10. Install the fan shroud and cooling fan, as described earlier in this section.
  11. Connect the negative battery cable, start the engine and check for leaks.

Good luck... and remember rated this help.
