Does it make a whooshing noise when it is being removed? The only thing that springs to mind is that your gas tank is plugged creating a vacuum in the tank starving the vehicle of fuel. Does the car stall when the cap is replaced?

check and see if the gas is getting to the carb, maybe a bad fuel pump. open gas cap and listen for the pump as someone else turns on the key.should hear the pump run a few seconds.

Truck wont stay started

Go to the fuel pressure regulator under the hood, remove the cap, press down on the valve and have someone crank the vehicle. See if gas comes out the nozzle. Step 1. Will talk of others next. Look forward to hearing from you.

2002 Dodge Ram Fuel Delivery Issue

a common problem with all dodge products from 95 or so to recently especially the trucks was running out of gas and the guage 8 times out of ten would read1/4 tank.
to check for this crank it then under hood locate the shradef valve on the fuel rail, remove the cap and depress the valve[like letting air out of a tire] if a spray of fuel comes out that part is ok. but if air or air and a little fuel come out put some gas in it and get a new fuel level sender
ps i am assuming its a gas engine

2002 lincoln navigater wont start

first take the gas cap off for a few minutes and where the hole is to put the gas into the tank open that up with a screw driver for a few minutes and once the car starts put in a half a tank of gas in it and a bottle of STP gas treatment with fuel injector cleaner and a little more gas and if this helps you should be good and you may have to replace the fuel filter if it does not open it all the way be sure to put the gas cap back on after truck starts
