With the ignition turned on, measure the voltage on the coil + terminal, it should be 8 to 12 volts, if there is nothing or very low ( ie 2 - 3 volts) then I would suspect the ballast resistor, )which may be part of the wiring from the key switch to the ignitionpack or coil.)

My ford f150 did the same thing, so I put the old starter solenoid back in( the one by the battery) and it cured the problem.
Come to find out, the after market relays aren't rated right, to get a good one, and the right one, you have to spend more and get it at a dealer.

I just had the same problem, today, check the tan- lt green wire on the fuel relay that is located on the right fender, mine wasn't pushed in all the way, this wire shut down spark and fuel
