SOURCE: Ford 300 -starts, but quits when you let go of the starter

With the ignition turned on, measure the voltage on the coil + terminal, it should be 8 to 12 volts, if there is nothing or very low ( ie 2 - 3 volts) then I would suspect the ballast resistor, )which may be part of the wiring from the key switch to the ignitionpack or coil.)

SOURCE: 93 Ford Explorer Starter won't disengage from Fly Wheel

My ford f150 did the same thing, so I put the old starter solenoid back in( the one by the battery) and it cured the problem.
Come to find out, the after market relays aren't rated right, to get a good one, and the right one, you have to spend more and get it at a dealer.

the wires at the ignition switch are wrong
the power to the relay should only be hot when the key is in the start position and not the run position

Maybe the ignition is bad- or your starter solenoid stuck in engaged position?

Ignition switch remove

The switch is a rectangle box mounted on the bottom of the steering column.
There is a rod that travels up the column to the key lock.

sounds like your fuel filter might be plugged causing the engine shutdown.
sounds like the solenoid on the starter is sticking causing your starter to stay engaged and powered up. the starter will stay powered up and will continue to spin until the starter solenoid is disengaged.
one other area to look at is the ignition switch. if that is bad it will continue to send a power signal to the starter solenoid keeping it engaged. so, you may want try unplugging that first, while your starter is running. if continues to run, then i would say it is the starter solenoid and not the switch. good luck

No Spark at Distributor Cap when cranking engine

check the ecm module. if its remoted, its on the dr's side fenderwell under the hinge. otherwise its on the distributor body. check cap and rotor, and the pip sensor in the distributor. those components control the spark timing and del. also check eec relay in the box on the dr's side fender. position one is the eec relay and fuse 22 is for that circuit

The first part of your question must be verified first. Is the engine still running or is it possably the starter motor that will not disengage?
