Are heater cores expensive to change in these cars

Hi Carol, what makes you think your heater core is leaking,is your antifreeze container low,if not then it's not leaking, could cost 3 to 5 hundred bucks,I just changed mine in my truck,it was leaking on driver side and my windows were getting fogged up.I had to lift the dash up on mine to do,i did it 10 years ago,so this time was easy, here's a link on replacing your heater core,Does your heater get the inside warm, does it have a musky smell?if it is leaking, then your antifreeze container will be low,has it been raining alot, you said in your other post that water is on the passenger side, rain water can come thru the intake vent. Window fogging

If it were a leaking heater core, the inside glass surface would have an oily film along with the fog.
It sounds like your fresh air intake is not working. You have to get fresh air from the outside to be able to get rid of the excess moisture inside the cabin. Or you have excessive moisture inside from a water leak that the system can't overcome.

Much water under front carpet of 2002 Toyota Sienna. seems to coming from up under dash on firewall I think, what say you.

If the Water smells like Antifreeeze then it is your HEATER CORE

If the water smells like Water or Dirty Water, then you have a LEAK.

Here is a TRICK..

Get an Aresol Can of WINDOW CLEANER.... Spray completely around your Windshield on OUTSIDE EDGES... YOU WANT IT FOAMY.

Get an AIR HOSE and BLOW the Windshield from the INSIDE and see where the leak is coming from.....

It has ALWAYS worked for me

1994 Caprice LS. Little to NO heat.

It will be the heater core. If you can smell it inside the car and it's steaming up the windows the core will need to be replaced. Remove the heater core housing and check to make sure its leaking from the core itself. You might get lucky and have a leak from the hoses running to core instead. Hope that helped.

I have a 2000 chevy blazer 4.3 auto my windsheld builds up with steam i change the thermostat thinking it was that but still steaming up the windows

Hi, if it is steaming up the inside of your windows, you have a water leak in your heater core. It is located on the passenger side enclosed. Check you water level also. You can try adding some engine stop leak, a good brand is Bar's leak that will seal any small leak which is what you probably have. Make sure you are running a 50?50 mixture of antifreeze. Good Luck, and please let me know.

i think you have a water leak inside the vehicle ,first step is to find the drain from the heater unit ,passenger side coming through firewall is a rubber hose that hangs down ,make sure the bottom of the hose is clean

Coolant is leaking on the passenger side floor inside my car. Light sweet smoke is coming out of the heater and leaves a residue on my windows. I think it is the heater core but I am just not sure.

hi yes your 100% right the heater core/matrix is leaking, the water is dripping down from it which is making the floor wet, and the reason you are getting "steam" on your screen is the hot water that is between the fins on the matrix is cooling causing condensation...so yes you are right..hope this helped

My 1996 jeep grand cherokee smell anifreez incar here water going back and worth but se no leak but have to re fill water once a weak.cant find leak under dash . but here water go back and forth wile...

the water sound i believe is from being low in antifreeze..if you are adding water oncce a week then there is a leak.. try looking on the inside of the car on the passenger side carpet to see if its wet..if not, then check things under the hood such as, heater hoses for heater core, water pump, thermostat housing, radiator, core plugs, block heater..if the smell is coming from the inside and there is a film on the window, then chances are you need a heater core....try that.
