SOURCE: after replacement of heater core i have problems with my a/c volvo s80 2000

It is possible that he accidentally forgot to hook up a hose. You can look under the left side of the dash, and see if one of the ducts isn't seated properly.

Or,

Take it back to the mechanic. As long as you don't go in there screaming, he'll likely come out and take a look, and possibly even fix it right there in the parking lot.

Hi everybody! So I have a 2004 Volvo XC90 SUV and I was told that the heater core needs replacement. I can't afford the dealer prices and was wondering if this can be a DIY project?

Most current cars require removal of the dashboard to get to the HVAC box, which must be removed and opened to get to the heater core. My suggestion would be to get a repair manual (Haynes, Chilton) for your car from an auto parts store. That should give you step-by-step instructions on how to do this BIG job (that's why Volvo wants $1000 to do it). You can also search YouTube to see if there are any relevant videos, but I haven't seen too much on Volvos on YouTube.

How do i remove the dash board for a volvo s90

You are in for a bear of a job. GET THE CODE FOR THE RADIO before you disconnect the battery - there should be a credit-card sized card in the owner's manual with the code, alternatively clever previous owner may have used a sharpie to write it on the radio itself. The dealer can get it by the VIN if it's the original radio.

That said, the dash mostly comes out. The heater core is against the firewall in the center over the transmission tunnel.
You work your way in from both footwells and by removing the radio/AC panel etc.

I'll link the best instructions on the job that I've seen. Volvo 700 900 Heater Core Replacement

Two things - if you're in a relatively warm climate, you can bypass the heater core with a piece of pipe between the hoses under the hood.
Alternatively, you could try pouring a third of a bottle of "Bar's Leak" leakstopper. It's for radiators so don't use the whole bottle, just a bit to stop the leak, add a little more if it still drips into the car.

That's a good fix for another year if you're not planning on keeping the car. Please, PLEASE, disclose that if you do sell the car to someone else so they don't get stuck with an unexpected repair.

Hi, yes, the heater core can be damaged while replacing the clutch, most likely the mechanic was trying to disconnect the hoses attached to the heater core and the core cracked at the solder on the outlet. I bought a reco unit for $300au but to fit it takes between 8 and 12 hours as the entire dashboard has to be removed to access it. I hope this helps, cheers.

Your heater core, or connection to the heater core, is cracked. Inspect and replace the heater core and its connections, accordingly.
