have ford check the cabin filter.I had the same problem and the
cause was in the housing were the cabin filter is located.

I believe it is an air-flow problem. I have a 2001 Beetle that did the same thing & no mechanic could solve the problem until I finally succumbed and took it to the dealer. This was a free repair for me as it is a well known problem. Do not leave it unchecked as it will ruin your cat converter/exhaust system which is a costly repair.

We went through this with ours recently. Hyundai diagnosed it as a bad crank shaft position sensor. We replaced it and we're up and running again. Not sure why the damp weather affected it but it did.
