Question about 2001 Chevrolet S-10

Chevy s-10 4cyl starts only with pedal only to floor but sputters bad and wont accelerate.

    Thanks Brian. Inclined to think its fuel pressure regulator. Have checked fuel pump and filter. Also replaced spark plugs and checked for spark. Thats all good but will not start at all now.

    since the symptoms have changed it is a good idea to start over from the beginning go back to the basics compression, spark, fuel pressure, injector pulse

SOURCE: Chevy S10 Pick 1995 - Sputters and almost stalls when accelerating.

You could have a dirty EGR valve, you can re move it from the manifold and clean it with Throttle body cleaner. Might as well buy two cans, since your cleaning the EGR, might as well clean out the throttle body too.
Spray the throttle body cleaner in to the throttle body with the engine running and try to keep it at 1000 rpm and then to 1500 rpm as you clean out the throttle body and let it idle down for 2 min then turn the engine off. Then turn the engine to the run position for 10 seconds and start and let idle, ro for a test drive and hope that solved the problem, if not there a few more things we can do which will consist for tune up.
Note: Clean the EGR first so you don't burn your self since the engine would still be cool before you clean the Throttle body.

it is your carburetor the fuel float is set to high and probably leaks. If it older than 10yrs old and has never been rebuilt . do that if you want to save yourself a bunch of time and little more money make the investment of a Brand New not rebuilt. if you get the carb manufactor specs matched to your motor , Out of the box, it will be very close to being on the money .

the first thing I would start with is looking for vaccume leaks. be sure to check your EGR valve, then move to your MAP sensor. The next thing that it could be is a stopped up catylic converter

I have a 1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0 I6 with about 155k miles that is having intermittent issues. I just recently had to replace my muffler because of the car backfiring. This problem doesn't happen...


Have it checked with a computer diagnostics. It sounds like it could be a bad sensor, quite possibly your oxygen sensor. A bad sensor could cause the computer to think your engine needs more fuel.

My jeep will not accelerate when it is in gear. it does start and run good while its in park. it will sputter and seems to back fire


cat converter is going bad. have someone rev engine and feel for pressure at tailpipe. i am willing to bet its restricted. did you have the egr fail code? egr valves hardly ever go bad. a bad cat converter will not allow for normal aceleration, even with the pedal to the floor.

Check the Catalytic converter,That is the same thing that happened to my truck and that is what I had to replace.
