Question about 2000 Ford Focus

1 Answer

My 2005 ford focus is running at a very high idle, or a vacuum leak. How can I tell which one it is? And how hard or how much will it cost to fix.

When I am driving the engine seems like it is at a very high idle, I will be at 40mph let of the gas and increase speed (not by much). I thought it might just have to adjust my idle, but then my check engine light came on

Idle is not adjustable on an electronic controlled car. You have a MIL Lamp lite CHECK FOR CODES then give them to us

Check and see if the EGR valve is leaking, to check this spray water on it at idle, if the water steams off the valve is leaking and is the source of your problem, also are you sure you hooked the new DPFE sensor up right? re-check it..

hesitating when from a standing start, then running well can be caused by having too big a jet size. I dropped the size of the jets on my Holley 4V, and it solved that part of the problem. The accelerator pump will push in too much gas, momentarily "drowning"the engine til you get enuff air to mix with the gas.

SOURCE: ford truck f250 v8 motor idles high

the vacuum leak that causes this high idle is the gasket at the bottom of the upper intake manifold runners, they **** in, done 100's. to confirm this just spray carb cleaner at inside and outside base, when u hit the leak you will hear it. see photo.

WHY IS MY 2005 FORD FOCUS ACCELERATE GO HIGH ITS OWN

Likely candidates are a vacuum leak, a faulty Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) or another sensor. OBDII readers which display fault codes are very reasonably priced these days and would in most cases tell you right away what the problem is.

2005 ford focus revs up high and heater not hot

It may be a vacuum leak. Some vehicles use engine vacuum to operate heater controls. A leak would cause the controls to malfunction and also increase engine idle. Check all the vacuum hoses for damagedvor unplugged ends. Hope this helps.

Why does my 2005 ford focus die while idling

Hi timberdwelle,

I believe you Ford dies while idling is because it's idle is too low, adjust the idling you will notice the change from the sound of the engine and base on the speedometer to see how high the needles goes up, don't go over 2 lines.

I hope this helps,

My 2005 ford focus will die on me when i am idling. is this a fuel system problem?.

I had the same problem and it was a vacuum leak in the PVC hose. It's hard to track the vacuum lines, but if you take it into local mechanic they can do a "fog" or "smoke" test they call it, and if you do have a vacuum leak it will show up. My car was doing same thing and it was the PVC hose, which is hard to see & hard to get to. $200 parts and labor to replace and it was fixed.

Start looking for signs of a vacuum leak. A high idle is a good sign of a vacuum hose that is either missing or cracked. Also start looking for other components which may be leaking air into the system. A real easy way to tell if you do in fact have a leak is to take a sensor safe spray such as intake/throttle body cleaner, or Carb Cleaner and spray it on a suspected leak, or around components such as an EGR valve, or fuel injectors. If the idle changes (will most likely cause the engine to stumble and die), you found your leak.
