Question about 1983 Dodge Diplomat

83 dodge diplomat carb leaks fuel

The carb on a 1983 225 slant six Dodge Diplomat Salon was rebuilt. Once installed it worked great. After a day of sitting, you start it up and the big vacuum port right next to the solenoid assembly-bowl vent is leaking fuel after a minute or so of running. Is something stuck open, closed, or is there a vacuum issue that needs to be explored? It leaks whether the vacuum hose is on or off.

I'll give that a look. Along with the heater motor being froze up, a big hole was discovered in the fuel tank. The project just got bigger. Thanks for the response.

You know, it's funny you mentioned the float. Mybrother built the carb. He said the float was set way too low on it. He set it back to spec. The next thing that wasn't put together was, the return liune from the fuel filter to the tank had a ball bearing shoved in it to keep it from letting fuel back. Turns out the fuel line to the carb wasn't the only line with rusty holes in it. All the fuel lines have to be replaced. It's getting too much fuel now that the return line is plugged and pumping at normal volume.

Float level and or needle and seat adjustment or replacement. Lovely engine. I had one once with 3 (three) twin throat Nikki carbies on the side of it and it flew Nearly

Your fuel lines run along passenger side frame rail. From the fuel tank over axle and along inside of frame rail (pass side)

Car is stalling at stops and running at high idle in park

Take it back to who ever rebuilt the carb. What you are describing are all carburation problems. Float set too high. Fast idle set too high. Accelerater pump not working. (inside carb). To get it started, pump it 2 times, and then hold it to the floor, and crank it over. Then if it runs, take it back to him. Check you oil. If it's really flooded bad, you will be way over full.
