1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee alarm will set on its own when closing the door even if I do not set the alarm with the remote. Is this normal?

Are you using the power door locks after the car is turned off?
This too (I find) will engage the alarm, automatically.

in my opinion, the jeep factory supplied alarm system is not "normal"
i am still trying to figure out how to permanently disengage

I have a 1998 jeep cherokee and can not open rear (trunk) door It feels like the key is unlocking and locking, but raising the door handle will not let me open the door?????

spray a light lubricating oil into the locking or catch mechanism, you will need to have the door opened already though. WD 40 should work well. I have a 98 cherokee limited and had a similar problem when I purchased it used. It would lock and unlock, but it wouldn't open. To first open it I had to push the handle down while I pulled the latch up.

1998 jeep cherokee lock problem

check and lube the latch mechanism...If linkage is bent, why not straighten it ? can't be bent too much unless someone tried to get in there and really pulled on it! If necessary you can get parts at any junkyard or dealer.
