Question about 2006 Honda Accord

1 Answer

15 mpg 2006 honda accord I4 auto. in city driving is this normal?

I bought my used 2006 Honda Accord 4 cyl, automatic 2 months ago.It has 40,500 miles on it and a new k & n air filter and oil and filter change. I pumped up the tires to 34 lbs all around.
The navigation screen shows my average mpg as 15. I only drive a couple days a week, not far enough for the engine to warm up completetly. Sometimes I drive on the interstate at 65 mph where the engine definately warms up. It is supposed to get 24 mpg city and 34 mpg hwy. Could there be a problem with the engine?

I tested the navigation system by checking its miles driven and the actual odometer miles driven and they don't match! The miles driven on the navigation screen is miles driven "as the crow flies" and is only an estimate based on the computer's map, according to the owner's manual, therefor the only true way to figure mpg is not to rely on what the nav. says, but divide the odometer miles driven by the number of gallons, the old fashioned way. The mpg on the nav. is an estimate of mpg in real time, and not the true mpg.

Doubtful. The K&N air filter is an aftermarket part which isn't compliant with standard factory parts against which those recommended MPG are tested.

The tyre pressure sounds too high for a car that size also, it would be worth enquiring with a main dealer what the reccomended pressure is.

Also your own driving ability comes into equasion too. Heavy/constant braking can affect it, having the air con witched on affects it etc etc.

All of the above combined would make a pretty big difference to your MPG.

What mileage or duration should I change the transmission oil of my 1999 Honda accord (HONDA ACCORD 1999)

My Accord V6 '99 has over 215,000. You can use synthetic transmission oil if its zr1 compatible. I change mine every 60,000 or so. Its 3 qts for the v6. The nissan maximas are the ones that have transmissions that generally dont last past 120,000 miles. Why do you still see many 98 and 99 accords still on the road Carlos?
If yours went at 70,000 than you need to buy a haynes manual and keep up with the maintenance on your car. By the way. Honda Accords are notorious for running fine after 200,000 miles. The parts are easy access and if you use a cheap obd2 scanner you can zero in on any problem with the car.

I had the same problem. You can get a new wheel bearing for about $50 (if I remember right) from Advance or some similar auto parts store. Mine was seized up and had to be cut off.

I've got an 08 4cyl and it doesn't really have the vibration unless its really cold. Usually if I give it about 30 seconds...when the rpms start to come down, its barely noticeable.

2006 Honda Accord fuel economy

This sounds very much like an Integrated Motor Assist (IMA Battery) issue. Call the dealer and check if there are any warranty/recall items on it. I've owned my 2000 Honda Insight for 5 years now and it had this issue a couple years back. They replaced a battery control module free of charge and that fixed it. Then earlier this year the battery finally expired after 165,000 miles and 10 years, which is amazing and it was less than $2k for a new one and installation. I love Honda because they stand behind their hybrids.
Otherwise, the good news is all Honda IMA systems will let you continue to drive even if the whole hybrid system has completely failed. If you don't feel like spending the money to get it fixed, don't! By driving with a light foot, avoiding unnecessary hard acceleration and practicing other fuel efficient driving techniques you should be able to get just as good mileage as if the car was new, but just without the extra acceleration kick.
