Question about 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

Car wont stay running, even with foot on the gas.

Went for a ride car worked fine. Turned car off and did some erands came back started and car just kept dying. When it would run it ran very ruff and had to keep my foot on the gas. Thought we had ice in the lines so add gas-line anti-freeze. Still wouldn't start decent. Eventually got it started and it seemed to be running fine. When to the next stop, left the car ideling and it stalled. Had to tow it home. After letting it sit for 2 hours it started no problem. Went for a ride late the evening, no problems. Took it to church the next day, no problem. After the service tried to start it and it kept dying. Finally got it to run, it was pretty ruff, had to drive with both feet. (This is an automatic.) Got on the highway and it started to hesitate, put it to the floor and managed to keep it running. Tried to start it the next day, it will start but not stay running. You can hear the fuel pump making noise, so the pump is not completely dead.
Any ideas?

I am having the exact same problem. My accelerator keeps acting like it is loosing power. I've tried pushing it down to the floor and it doesn't even make it budge. It also jerks really bad before it dies, which is scary makes me think something is really wrong with my transmission. I've left my car with two different mechanics for days. One mechanic kept telling me that there was just dirt on the sensors. The other mechanic told me it was my battery and put a new one in. Of course I'm still stuck in the same situation but one of my friends said to have the mechanic check into the accelerator sensor. I even asked my mechanic to and he didn't because he thinks it's the battery. Now I'm looking for a mechanic that will check the sensor for me.

Had my 1998 Grand Prix fixed it was the mass air flow sensor. Tinny little box with a rather large price tag. Works great now.

You could also check the fuel injector wires, sometimes they come loose if the clip broke somehow

Lights went out and radiator fan stays running after car is shut off

It sounds like an alternator, yet you say the fan still worked after you disconnected the battery? And the car was still running? Or the car died out. Sorry, need some more details on this one.

Check TPS -Throttle Position Sensor

May be worn out

Test it --not replace-- unless it has failed a test

Also the fuel pump maybe worn out as well

No Bus 08 dodge avenger..windows,radio,heater...etc..no start..disconnect battery..now its running again

Just bought a 2013 dodge avenger, literally yesterday. Test drove fine twice,, drove all over town for license and registration, multiple erands. No problems. I got to work and went to leave for lunch and was introduced to the no bus code. Left me stranded the very day i purchased it,, only 25000 miles. Is this problem simple enough to weather or is this the brightest red flag to take it back?

1994 camry 4cyl. was running great. drove it to work and shut it off, then went to start it back up and it shut right off, wont idle. I can keep it running by keeping my foot on gas and its not running...

have your idle control switch check, easy and inexpensive to replace. The idle control switch is what keep the engine stay idle. also have your throttle body clean by a professional having that many miles, it will give you better gas mileage.

1983 Mercury Marquis wont stay started

this problem is caused by carbon holding the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve open, it is a very comon complaint, fixed 100's for the issue at my dealer. You can buy a EGR valve carbon trap from the dealer to stop the problem.

On the tranny there are input and output speed senors,it sounds like your input speed sensor went bad, this was a very common problem for those cars, and not very expensive to fix. The car is stuck in what they call limp mode.

My car will start but the gear wont come out of park

Sounds like a bad brake switch. It has a shift interlock system that requires power from the brake switch to move the shifter.
