How do I adjust idle on 2009 Toyota Corolla 1.8 liter

There are no provisions for adjusting the idle . The computer through the use of the IAC valve - idle air control controls the idle . There is a base idle set at the factory an should not be changed or messed with . What idle problem are you having ? low or high Could be IAC valve or air passages plugged . High idle the throttle plate could be gummed up an sticking ! If you were to change the base idle you cause check engine light problems .
How To Fix Car That Idles Poorly

Tip

The Power of Balance.

A lot of people post us questions about misfiring motors and how they can be diagnosed. The simplest and fastest way to check a misfire is the "power balance" test. It takes a few minutes and can tell you a lot about what is going on in the motor. Here's how its done. With the motor idling, open the hood and listen to the engine for where the misfire is occurring, if you can't isolate the misfire, then remove the #1 spark plug wire. If the motor idles the same then this is the bad cylinder, If it idles worse then you need to repeat the sequence till you find it.

****WHEN REMOVING A SPARK PLUG WIRE WHEN THE MOTOR IS RUNNING HIGH VOLTAGE CURRENT IS RUNNING THROUGH THE WIRE! USE AN INSULATED PAIR OF PLIERS TO REMOVE THESE WHEN PREFORMING A POWER BALANCE TEST, AS ELECTRICAL SHOCK MAY OCCUR!***

What wron g with a 1987 chevy celebrity that wont idle

There are a lot of factors that can cause a poor/no idle problem. I'm guessing the 2.8 lt motor? One common problem on this motor was a bad intake manifold gasket causing an internal vacuum leak supplying the vehicle with unmetered air. The vehicle would idle very poorly and stall. Another problem could be with the IAC ( Idle air control) motor that controls idle. It could be sticky/defective and will not properly control idle. A dirty throttle plate can also cause idle problems as it upsets minimum airflow. You can start by inspecting the throttle plate for dirty/coking and clean with carb spray as necessary. You can also try removing and cleaning the IAC motor pintle or replacing the motor with a known good oneto see if it corrects the problem

I changed spark plugs and 1 coil on 4.7 2004 dakota. now i have a idle speed of about 2000 rpm

sounds like the idle speed motor is bad, rather then paying big bucks for one. see if you can find one at a junk yard. idle air control is on the side of the throttle body just below the tps sensor. (on drivers side) good day! now days there is no setting just the motor to control idling.

Dependent on what year you have. If it has an idle speed motor that could be cleaned as well as the throttle body. Idle speed motor may need to be replaced sometimes a good cleaning hooks them right up.

Engine idles up and down radicaly when first cranked , check engine light is on auto-zone put their reader on truck and it pulled up code for mass air flow sensor, so i replaced it still no change.

your idle is compensating for poss air leak like vac or idle air motor, does it settle down as it warms up .if so then a poss coolant sensor is thinking that it is 50 below.hence a very rich mixture and a idle which will hunt.idle air motor maybe plugged with carbon.also disconect the battery for couple of mins.start and hold idle high about 2000 rpm for 5 mins if all above does not work.

When my 2005 chevy cavelier is idling (at stop lights, sitting in park, etc) where should the rpms be? I have a friend saying my rpms are too low when idling. Right now they are between 0 and 1. Thanks

Idle in park: 800-1100RPM is acceptable.
In drive: about 700RPM
Your idle speed is actually controlled by the idle air control motor also called the IAC. There isn't any idle adjustment you can manually set as the motor is fuel injected and EEC controls air and fuel mixture at idle.

Hesitation or stumble during acceleration

take your car for a tune up
if they are carburetor type motors you may need your carbie cleaned and a tune up
if you clean it your self with carbie cleaner it may increase in idle speed this is nothing to worries about it is a simple adjustment
with a carburetor type motor they tend to idle higher when their cold this is the automatic choke kicking in and normally it should happen till the car is a bit warmer and the accelerator has been depresses
although a car should idle at 800 rpm my paddok car dose when it is cold it idles at 1200rpm i like it this way as the car warms up quicker as i will not drive a car while it is cold
hope this helps

Stoopid car wont idle

In a sense both of these parts are on in the same. This has been a very common problem with GM vehicles. The part that you need is called an Idle Air Control Motor, or IAC for short. This is an easy repair and will only take about 20 min. The IAC is located on the throttle body. and is a round cylintrical motor that is about 3-4 inches long, and has a 2 wire harness coming off of it. You should be able to pick one up at a local part house for about 50-70 dollars., here is a picture of what the valve looks like, and the Car Quest part # is 76033
