Wher is the speed sensor on my 1999 mecury sable

    On top of transaxle case,I believe toward the passenger side. Has a wire connector on it

a bad egr valve that's letting combustion gasses backflow into the sensor.

99 mecury sable replaced thermostat and housing freeze plugs heater core radiator head gaskets and heads... still over heats going up hills and heater not working.

heater cores is probly pluged take a garden hose and try to flush it out. usualy the heater core is the waterpump bypas. it also could be that ur radiator fans arnt running

99 mercury sable had diagnostic done says it needs a new speed sensor. it won't dislodge out of the housing. any tips on how to solve this problem

did you purchase a new speed sensor yet,so you know exactly what your trying to remove,
there should be one bolt holding it in if you can try turning it each direction and spraying it with wd40.

While driving my 99 sables spedometer drops to zero and rpms rev. I was told that this may be a bad speed sensor, though the code is 1744 which is the torque compressor

It could very well easily be either one of these two things. If you are getting a code, I would try to repair that first. The codes are usually right. The speed sensor can be cleaned which I recommend doing before trying to replace

theres a sensor before the catallitic converter and one after. yes easy to get to and takes a 7/8ths wrench
