Tensioning timing belt

Timing belts usually have an automatic (spring Loaded) adjuster. Usual replacement is done at 100,000 k or 60,000 miles. If you do not replace it you run the risk of it breaking which could do damage to the engine. refer to your owners manual.

Diagram to show how to get the serpentine belt of a 2008 dodge caliber

There is a diagram in the engine compartment itself that displays belt routing and removal.

When you look at the engine and all the pulleys that the serpentine belt goes around, one of those pulleys will have a "tensioner" on it. On that "tensioner", there should be a square looking slot for you to insert a socket extension to or you may have enough room to just use the socket drive handle itself.

Rotate counter clockwise until you have relieved enough tension to slide the belt off. Reverse the procedure for re-installation.

I need a serpentine drive belt routing diagram for a 1999 chevy K2500 4x4 pickup with a 350 engine

Serpentine belts are easy to change. The key is knowing where the 1/2" square drive tensioner is and to remove tension to the belt at this point.

If you remove the belt, it's easy to put the new one on because the pulleys are designed with grooves for the groove side of the belt, and smooth pulleys for the smooth back of the belt to ride on the pulleys.

Just go over, under, over, under until the belt is threaded on, except for the last idler pulley which is smooth.

Use the 1/2" breaker bar to turn the pulley until one can slip the belt onto the last 'idler' pulley and you're done.

Align marks on timing belt pulley and pump body.

Camshaft pulley alignment marks

  1. Align marks on camshaft pulleys with alignment marks on seal plate.
  2. Install timing belt. NOTE: No looseness should exist on the tension side and at the camshaft pulleys.
  3. Loosen tensioner lock bolt.
  4. Turn crankshaft 2 revolutions in direction of rotation and check that timing marks are still in alignment.
  5. Tighten timing belt tension lock bolt to 27-38 ft lb (32-52 Nm).
  6. Apply a force of 22 lbs to timing belt between camshaft sprockets.
  7. Belt deflection should measure 0.30-0.33 in (7.5-8.5 mm)
  8. NOTE: Replace tensioner spring if timing belt deflection is excessive.

How to replace serpentine belt 1999 yukon

There is a sprint loaded tensioner (has smooth pulley) with an opening on the arm to insert a breaker bar or rachet you push to releieve tension to remove the belt....I think it is 1/2" drive.

Use the belt routing diagram in the engine compartment to install the belt....smooth side goes over smooth pulleys and ribbed side goes over ribbed pulleys.

I always save my old belt in case the belt ever breaks on a trip...

How to Change Compressor Belt

This vehicle has one(1) belt a serpentine belt, this belt runs on all the pulleys on your vehicle . To change this belt is pretty simple there is a tensioner pulley that keeps belt tightly secured on all pulleys by eliminating that looseness. All you need depending on production dat is a 3/8 ratchet or in some applications a 15mm flat wrench. Look for tension I have provide you a diagram with the lay out of you belt .First Identify your system from the diagram before you proceed. Using ratchet/wrenchPull down or up which ever makes tension on belt loose and remove belt. Replace belt in the opposite of taking off following routing diagram. Good Luck contact if you need more help. Thanks for using FIX YA. http://www.2carpros.com/car_repair_information/tec_info/1999/gmc/sierra/1999_gmc_sierra_drive_belt_routing_diagram.htm
