Oil is leaking out of my 1992 GEO Prizm at a rapid rate. How much would it cost to fix it? I have an oil seal, but it isn't working well.

Oil is leaking out of the back of my 92 GEO Prizm. The oil seal is not working, and have to put a quart of oil in it every hundred miles. What can I do, and how much would it cost to get this fixed?

SOURCE: Rear Main Seal Leaking

Hello, it's not "easy" but, it's doable.
You'll need to follow the instructions and don't take shortcuts. ask for help if you need it.
Use this link to get an idea of what is involved. Ignore the "remove transmission" part. It can be done without removing the tranny. If you decide to do this buy a service manual to help you. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

SOURCE: ticking in engine after oil change

this ticking problem is probably your hydraulic lifters, when the oil is drained they also drained and they sometimes take a while to bleed so they may be noisy... the noise should be coming from the top of the engine...

I would just check that you put in the right oil aswell just incase, if the oil was to thin it may be a little noisy.. its definately a good idea to make sure the right oil was put in (e.g. 40w-50) < this is the viscosity of the oil and to find out just ask someone in you auto parts store what oil a 92 geo storm should take...

but if the noise goes away after a drive then it was just the lifters and is not a big prob

Why is oil leaking out of timing cover?

Bad gasket. Sometimes the seals around the valve stems break down and end up clogging the return oil holes. When this happens you get a flood of oil on top where it seeks a way to get out.

How do you replace oil seal on 1992 Toyota pickup

You likely need a valve cover gasket, to confirm this is the leak clean the engine with a pressure washer and then drive it, if the cover is the leak tighten down the retaining bolts first, the gasket gets flattened and leaks, this works one time in most cases on this engine.

Main bearing seal leaks

The simple answer is heavier oil or a product called "motor honey", "stp" or similar, available at your Auto Parts store. Ask the guy or gal at the counter for the best product for your application.

Repairing the seal is very costly.

96 geo prizm is burning oil. what is the problem?

Depending on the mileage, worn piston rings are the most likely cause. There are also numerous places on these engines that leak - valve cover gasket, distributor seal, cam seal and oil pan are the most common. You can try a heavier weight oil the next oil change. If you're current using 10W30, try switching to 10W40.

Where is the oil filter in a 1992 geo prizm?

It's in the front of the engine directly below the exhaust manifold. If you look under the car from the front you should be able to easily see it.

There is oil on the spark plug on my 1991 geo prism what could it be?

If it is on the cylinder side of the plug you have oil leaking into your cylinder, which is going to be a problem with the head gasket or a valve seal. If it is on the wire side then you most likely have a valve cover leak.

How to change a timing cover seal on a 1992 Geo Prizm? Car is leaking oil bad out front of engine, I assume it is the timing cover seals.

This is the same as a Toyota Corolla. Plan on replacing the timing belt and all associated parts. The problem is either the Camshaft or Crankshaft seals. Timing cover seal does NOT keep oil in the engine. The oil getting on the timing belt WILL cause premature failure.
