Question about Cars & Trucks
*History*My car shakes every now and again but usually after 2-3 mins it stops. I can never duplicate the problem because by the time I drive it to a mechanic the shaking is all but gone. ***(I'm also a female who is not familiar with cars at all, so please don't be harsh and if you can, please tell me more than "take it to a mechanic." I would like to have an idea of what the problem may be so I can research the issue and find possible solutions.)*** So yesterday I drove my car to the gym and it ran perfectly fine. When I was ready to leave the gym and I started my car up, I immediately smelled gas and it would shake horribly and my acceleration was extremely poor. I could not go over 30 mph and the gas smell was intense. Whenever, I would stop the problem got worse. The shaking would intensify at each stop. So I made it home and tried to look around the car for any leakage and I didn't see any. THE ODD THING IS THE GAS SMELL WAS NOT STRONG BY MY GAS TANK! It was strong inside the car and under the hood. There also was NO UNUSUAL SMOKE OR SPUTTERING. So I didn't drive it but to and from the gym yesterday, but I drove it for a few miles today and nothing. It wasn't shaking and the gas smell was gone. I know that there is a problem with my car but I haven't a clue as to what it may be. Any ideas??

You may have a fuel leak. when there is odor of gas there ia a leak somewhere. Pop the hood and check with your nose where the smell is coming from. Once you isolate the location of the odor check with your hands. if your hand is wet and smells of gas you have found the leak. Next get a mirror to see if you can replace the hose yorself. In some cases due to the age of the car and since most fuel lines are made of rubber, after some time they can become corrosive and start to leak. Check the fuel lines. If the smell is entering your cab while you drive the problem is in the front of the car due to the fact that as you drive the rushing air will cause the odors to dissipate. Good Luck!!!
