Depending on the make model and year, someone would need to check the circuits between the alternator and the battery - key switch for a blown fuse or bad connection.

Battery light is on starter and alternator are working

first, what kind of car? second, how do you know the alternator is working?let me tell you how the alternator and the battery light works. the bulb receives ground from the alternator when the alternator either isnt spinning or if the alternator is defective,so when the alternator is spinning and said alternator is in working condition, the alternator sends power to the bulb, and with no ground, the light goes out, so,to answer your question, install a reman or new alternator because your is bad.

I have a 2008 equinox lt n i just bought. A alternater and a new battery. And after a couple of days driving it all the lights on dash comes on and as i'm driving all lights goes off n truck. Slows down n...

the way an alternator works is it has to have what is called a voltage sensing wire, which tells the alternator what level of charge your battery has and how much the alternator needs to put out. If your battery cables are corroded or damaged you can change the battery and alternator every week and the problem will persist. I would start buy checking cables and sensing wire (wire from alternator to battery) and be sure they are free of coorosion and visible damage. if all appears good then do a voltage drop test on battery terminals and cables. also voltage drop test on voltage sensing wire (wire form alternator to battery). this series of test should give you an answer. any further questions feel free to ask.

Battery light on new battery and new alternator

Again as in common with so many answers to questions i would to have a look but i would suggest that you check the wiring terminals on the alternator first ,Was this alternator a new genuine bosch exchange unit ? and not one from a scrapyard

1991 buick century battery light on

Charge your battery and have it tested. Most part stores will do this for you at no cost. I'm leaning towards an alternator issue but it is possible that it could be both the battery and the alternator. Even if it's just the alternator the battery should be fully charged as a discharged battery can damage the alternator.

Well so far out of 8 months ive had to change the battery in my mothers 2003 dodge durango 6 times and they keep sayin the alternator is good. then i thought it my b the spark plugs cause they havent been...

are you checking the alternator on the car or off the car? Are you getting at least 14 volts to the battery with the engine running? The alternator relies on circuitry in the car to be right. Your PCM regulates the voltage put out by the alternator. There may also be a fuse in the charge circuit.
If not this, perhaps there is a small short in the car's wiring that is draining the battery. Does the battery usually go bad after a long spell of not being used? Please let me know, and I can provide troubleshooting tips depending on your answers.

My 99 windstar headlights are dimming, the abs light has come on and at times will not start. van has a new battery?

Clean the battery terminals.

Check the alternator voltage.

Just start the van if you have to.

Check the voltage at the battery terminals.

It should read 13.8V to 14.2V.

If the pully tensioner is from 1999 then it's time to change it.

Check belt the cracks.

After the tensioner change and belt change then double the voltage.

It has to be 13.8V or high.

If not then change out the failing alternator,

Please rate my answer if it's helpful to you.

Cheers,

The battery light was coming off/on..then all the inside lights dimmed then the car died out and anti lock was coming on and not letting me change gears

The alternator is most likely faulty. Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery. connect jumper cables to the positive post and the Engine frame. Start the vehicle. If the vehicle starts, disconnect the negative jumper cable. If the vehicle dies, and most likely will, remove the alternator and take it to Auto Zone and have it tested. If the vehicle doesn't die out, replace the battery.

No heat...Needed new battery

Well #1 with the gauge going to hot and no heat,10 to 1 it's a bad thermostat, stuck in the closed position. If you drove it like that for any length of time, with it hot, other things can get damaged.Change the thermostat, then have the alternator checked to see if it's charging. The meter should read 13 to 14 volts or more.
