All your doing is clearing ALL Data from pcm,
needed to diagnose the problem

You use the codes & trouble charts to diagnose a system

Then continue on to component test- before determining
if any parts are needed

Things have to fail a test,no testing,no failed parts,nothing
gets replaced

You need to study what causes a PO 300 multiple misfire code

I would say you have a bad ignition coil or two if that applies
to your type ignition

Doubt the Haynes will be of much use,problem should learn all
you can there & then toss it out & buy the real factory manuals for
all your vehicles

SOURCE: Chrysler Sebring, was running like this found out it was distributor, now engine light on for p0300 ( multiple cylinder misfire) why? Is that the distributor too? It's 2003 v6 3.0 lxi coupe

it is the ignition control module in the distributor

Random multiple misfire P0300, P0302, P0304 on 2006 Kia Rio


A competent mechanic will check all probable causes associated with these DTC codes.
Code P0300: Random-Multiple misfire detected. Probable causes:
1. Vacuum leaks, damaged hoses, or improper routing
2. Fuel contamination
3. Ignition system - Ignition module, coil, spark plugs and wires
4. Fuel system
Code P0302: Cylinder 2 misfire detected. Probable causes:
1. Control unit software in need of updating
2. Faulty PCM or ECM
3. Faulty fuel injector
4. Ignition system
5. Fuel system
Code 0304: Cylinder 4 misfire detected. Probable causes:
1. Control unit software in need of updating
2. Faulty PCM or ECM
3. Faulty fuel injector
4. Ignition system
5. Fuel system

Be sure the invoice enumerates all of these probable causes as having been checked. Also, some of the replacement parts installed earlier may be faulty.

A code P0300 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

Getting a multiple cylinder misfire, Code P0300 on my OBD II reader. Can'tdo any actual exploring, as it is a van I amin negoiations with a local car dealer, before I finalize the sale.


It could be spark related; spark plugs or wiring connections. Vacuum leaks from any gasket are in and around the intake manifold. These are two areas that are common and this type of engine code can be very hard to diagnose at times.

Code reads "random/multiple cylinder misfire


Basically this means that the the car's computer has detected that not all of the engine's cylinders are firing properly.

A P0300 diagnostic code indicates a random or multiple misfire. If the last digit is a number other than zero, it corresponds to the cylinder number that is misfiring. A P0302 code, for example, would tell you cylinder number two is misfiring. Unfortunately, a P0300 doesn't tell you specifically which cylinder(s) is/are mis-firing, nor why.

Symptoms may include:
the engine may be harder to start
the engine may stumble / stumble, and/or hesitate
other symptoms may also be present

Causes: A code P0300 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
Faulty spark plugs or wires
Faulty coil (pack)
Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
Faulty fuel injector(s)
Burned exhaust valve
Faulty catalytic converter(s)
Stuck/blocked EGR valve / passages
Faulty camshaft position sensor
Defective computer

Possible Solutions:
If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.

If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

Random misfires that jump around from one cylinder to another (read: P030x codes) also will set a P0300 code. The underlying cause is often a lean fuel condition, which may be due to a vacuum leak in the intake manifold or unmetered air getting past the airflow sensor, or an EGR valve that is stuck open.

Hi.

P0300 is random misfire, and can be caused by a number of problem. First check if there are more codes stored in the PCM.

If you have only P0300, check spark plugs, distributor (depending on year distribution coils) and high voltage wires from distributor to spark plugs. Those are the most common cause for random misfire.

If distribution is OK, check for ignition problems. A too rich or too lean mixture can result in misfire. Often the problem is not reported by the PCM with a lean or rich code based on the O2 sensors' input.
Check fuel system, injectors, filter and sensors in air intake and air intake itself, vacuum system etc.

Check with particular attention the EGR system, that is a common fault resulting in random misfire. Chrysler Sebring built in the second half of the 90s are commonly suffering from EGR problems (there are several Chrysler service bulletins on this).

P0300 is often accompanied by symptoms such as engine running rough or shutting down. There are more faults, apart the ones listed that can result in P0300.

OBD II 300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

When the misfire monitor detects a misfire, it will trigger the check engine light with the specific cylinder number as the last digit in the P030X code. For instance cylinder 1 misfire is P0301, cylinder 2 is P0302 etc. In this case we have either multiple cylinders misfiring, or the computer simply can't determine the specific cylinder, and as such we are left with the P0300 in computer memory.

Possible Causes:

Fuel injectors, related wiring, sensors and computer issues
Running out of gas, or poor fuel quality
Evaporative emissions system (EVAP) concerns: fuel vapors leaking into engine
Incorrect Fuel Pressure
EGR system concerns: leaking EGR valve or restricted ports
Base engine concerns: low compression, valve train problems and timing issues
Ignition system concerns including, but not limited to:
Faulty spark plugs
Faulty coil or related wiring
Ignition module or related wiring issues
Ignition related sensor faults or wiring issues

Fault code I believe is p0300


P0300 is a misfire that the engine computer hasn't or can't pinpoint to a specific cylinder yet
