Question about 2004 Ford Freestar

Open Question

Freestar sliding doors are rough

These are manual doors. Need tips on cleaning and lubrication. I've tried white grease, but it helps for a day, then they become hard to slide again.

SOURCE: The power sliding door opens but will not close.

Spray the rollers and pathway with WD-40. This lubricates the door rollers and also cleans the rollers and pathway which the rollers travel back and forth. The door upon any resistance opens protecting the occupants from being hurt in the doorway. This worked on my 2003 Windstar.

SOURCE: Power sliding door won't close properly on 2005 Freestar

U will need to buy a can of spray white grease and clean and then lubricate all the tracks the door channels on as well as all the latches for the door, this will cure the issue in most cases, did allot of these while working at a Ford dealer.

SOURCE: 2004 Freestar hatch will not unlock

There is a tendancy for the Triggers from the handle to Disengage internally to the Latch due to Wear and Tear, or sometimes Stressing the Mechanism when the Tailgate is Locked and someone forgot.
Gently unfasten the trim panels around the Tailgate, from the INSIDE, and if you THINK about the project, you will be able to release enough of this All in One piece enough to trip the triggers by hand, and open the Tailgate. Continue to unfasten the moulded grips, and remove the whole panel. This will then give you the access to fix the Release mechanism, mounted on the Tailgate inner body.

While it is not common for a vehicle of that age, it is possible the rubber seals around the doors are aged enough to allow small amounts of air and noise to enter. If you can see physically the door isn't closed fully, check the closing points for lubrication as in 10 yrs the lubrication can collect rain, dust, silt, etc causing it not to function as it once did. Often times you may need to use a silicon spray to help remove the old lubrication and apply fresh. Silicon spray by itself will not provide proper lubrication for long. A local auto parts store should be able to recommend something for this. I most often use marine bearing grease as it stands up better to moisture.

Why does the sliding back door always sticks and won't open in the winter?

grease will get hard like wax in the cold spray areas that are greased with carb or brake cleaner to remove the grease and relube those areas with a teflon or silicone type of lube spray

2003 town & country power side doors

These doors are very complex and there is not really any service except cleaning and lubrication of the moving parts that that the owner can do. Any other issue requires the dealers help and special tools and skills. So clean and lubricate (use spray Lithium white grease) all side door tracks and latches and see if that helps.

Have a 2001 Sienna with a right hand sliding door. It will not open all the way or close properly in foul weather this seems to be the only time it acts up. Can you Help? Mark.

Try cleaning and applying a light lubricating grease to track top & bottom. Old grease gets stiff in cold weather and is creating resistance. Do NOT use WD40, use a light lithium based grease available at any parts store.
