Can a single post on a 6 post v-6 coil be bad or do they just work or not

Have a miss just wondering if only one post can go bad while the other 5 are firing and can the coil be checked by me

Yes you can have one or several coils break down
& do so under different load conditions

All you can do is buy one coil & walk it to each
cylinder until you get the bad one

You could start with PO301 thru PO306 codes
but they may not help you

There are several ways to test them, but not at home,
without thousands of dollars in test equip

THIS IS A SINGLE COIL WITH SIX TERMINALS CAN ONE TERMINAL BE BAD

  • Anonymous Dec 09, 2012

Fist let me say you as with almost everyone coming to this site provided no yaer, make, model, engine size. That said the answer is yes & no depending on coil design Each cylinder needs a way to fire in cylinder rotation,so to answer your question as to I perceive it the answer is YES You will replace the entire coil anyway but only after you know how to test it & it fails. Does anyone do that,no, they don't have the knowledge to component test. There is suggest You Tube Video or Google to get up to speed

What is a misfire and would that stop the vehilce from shaking?

usually a miss fire is cause by a bad coil or wire if u have the single coils in each cylinder if u code read it it will tell u which one is bad ....if coil pack then could be it needs a new set of wires and yes it would run shaky cause instead of running on 6 or 4 its running on 5 or 3 which throws off balance o rotation just light an uneven load in the washer

If there is spark out of one coil than its not the crank sensor.

does this have one coil assembly with 6 posts or are there three individual coils?

If it has three individual coils try swapping the coil that works with one that doesn't. If the one that wasn't working now works and the one that was working doesn't than you have a bad module. If the coil that was working still works and the coil that doesn't work still doesn't work than you have a bad coil.

If it has one coil with 6 posts I would replace the coil and the module. It is not uncommon for the coils to go bad and take out the module at the same time.

1 Got a misfire on # 5. 2 Compression is OK on

My thought is a bad coil,or coil boot,or an injector,on number 5 cylinder. Most likely the coil, when it does this.

I have a cylinder that is miss fireing. I have replaced the wires and the plugs. Iwas told that it is probably a valve that went bad. Can you still drive with it in this condition?

its not recommended to drive a vehicle with bad valves as it may cause major engine damage. Have you checked the ignition coil, this will cause misfire if defective. If this car has a 12valve V-6 engine its a single unit, if its DOHC 24valve v-6 its COPs (Ignition coil over plugs) and ther is 6 units. Hopefully thiss helps

The Spark Plugs are out of the correct order. What is the right firing order?

Ford settled on a single firing order for v6 engines covering many many years of vehicles: 1-4-2-5-3-6 The cylinder numbers are from the front of the engine left to right is 4-5-6 and the fire wall side is 1-2-3 The coil number from the front is 5-6-4 and to the fire wall side is 1-2-3. Good luck and hope this helps, keep me posted if you need more information, be glad to help

Ignition ccoil replacement 4 and 6

the last number in a po30 code is the cylender with the missfire. you say you have po306 and po302 which means #6 and#2 are missfiring. if you stand in front of car the passenger side has 1 through 4 cylenders starting with # 1 in front and # 4 in rear and driver side has 5 through 8 starting with # 5 in front and # 8 in rear. passenger side 1 2 3 4 - driver side 5 6 7 8. if you have indavidual coils on each plug then just unplug the coil and take the single 7mm screw out that holds it in place and the coil will come straight up off the plug
