22r surging idle - 1985 Toyota Pickup

Did you changed fuel filter, air filter, clean throttle body.Any codes?

Check crank shaft and sensors.

repost with the spec differences beween the two engines Im a bit foggy here..Im thinkin one had or has intake restrictor plates under the intake for not letting hot gasses enter under the carb mount...

I am original owner of 1986Toyota Pickup 2wd caRB. 4SP MAN. SHORT BASE MFG.IN JAPAN. I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH ANYTHING UNDER THE HOOD OR IDLE OR ACELLERATION. iT RUNS JUST LIKE THE DAY i BOUGHT IT IN oCT. 1986. i NEVER ADJUSTED CARB OR CHOKE OR CLEANED IT iT HAS ALL ORIGNIAL PARTS EXCEPTTHE STARTER, BATTERY AND WATER PUMP GASKET.

CHECK THE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE IT TAKES OVER WHEN YOU LET OFF GAS MAY BE STICKING

clean throttle body and make sure its full of coolant please rate ps love your user name

Fill the tank up but do not top off.

Ran the trunk for 15-20 minutes on the highway and recheck the fuel surge condition at 2500 rpm.

If it stop surging then you has a weak fuel pump.

Change the fuel filter will also help.

Also check the fast idle setting.

If everything checks out then set a smog check appointment in the EARLY MORNING.

Find the EGR valve and underneath the valve there are holes, with the engine running try to open the valve by using a scredriver, the engine should die. do it a few times to clean the valve.

is it a 22r or 22re?car or fuel injection?
