SOURCE: vsc vsc off check engine

I just had the same issue. Cost me $40.00 to find out my gas cap wasnt clicked all the way. He also said that after the error arises, simply closing the gas until it clicked may not have removed the error code from the computer. Not sure how, but you might have to reset the computer, maybe just pull the battery?

Check your switches for the VSC, some get bumped on (due to their location) and some get stuck in the "on"position.

1998 Ford F-150 6 cylinder. When I turn on the Air conditioning the engine idles rough.

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to Ford F-150.

The first thing you must do is to connect a code reader and find out why the Engine Check Light is on. It is a 1998, so the information will be basic, but it is a starting point.

After a long drive on vacation in a heavy rain, the check engine, VSC, and Trac Off lights came on and stayed on. Autozone says the codes are P0015 and P0017. any ideas?

Year/make/model??? P0015 is a camshaft position sensor code and P0017 is a crankshaft position sensor code ( generically ). The computer most likely disabled the traction/Vsc as a safety related operation. It is possible the heavy rain may have caused an electrical issue within the wiring/sensors. I would suggest having the codes cleared and continue driving and monitor the engine light to see if these codes return. Ir they do, further diagnostics will be required

Engine runs rough at idle, and wont exceed 3500 rpm, ever.

Is this the 5-cylinder engine? Is the 'check engine' light illuminated on the dash? If the 'check engine' light is illuminated, does it ever blink while the engine is running rough?
