done one and cant remember ,sorry ,its either a cartridge type or the cannister ,If vehicle runs ok then leave it alone because unless you pick up a load of dodgy fuel then it will last more or less the life of the vehicle. If it has water in it then a light will come on in the dash panel ,Normally i only open the water drain on the bottom on a service just to make sure ,Only get problems with filters on plant machines where murphy or paddy has used a dirty can to fill with diesel

SOURCE: I have a 2007 Touareg
There is no dispute to the fact that the volkswagen touareg is a very good SUV in terms of durability and comfort, and its a very good value for your money.I own a 2007 model of this car and believe me i have not had any regret for buying this car, after 2yrs.
What can be deduced from consumers discussion in their forum in relativity to the engine of the V10 is that its recommended to purchase an extended warranty to cover the next 50,000 miles for this SUV and it will really be a great value for your money, because some minor issues might come up in the nearest future with regards to the pluggs, this requires the expertise of qualified touareg engineers.
So i will suggest you buy an extended warranty to be on the safe side so you won't have any cause to regret in the nearest future.
Thanks for using fixya.
