I have a BMW 328i 1997 and I broke the hood latch to open the hood. How do I open the hood or fix it with little work?


Can yu reach the lock mechanism at front of hood w a long screwdriver. pry back where cable for release is attached for first latch. then as you would normally for safety latch.

That... is a very very difficult job. It SHOULD be, since that helps prevent car thieves from stealing your battery or your car.

You may be able to get to it by removing the grille. If not, you'll need to get past the radiator from underneath.

First, though, try pushing down on the hood while someone pulls the hood release.

I have a 2001 BMW 330CI convertible. The Hood of the car can lock and unlock. I have to use a coat hanger to release it from the locking mechanism by pulling the latch toward me to actually lift the hood...


The lever in the car is connected to a pull wire, it has probably just come undone. Get to where you can see the hood lever in the car and then look for the cable, it should reattach easily, if it will not, then you may need a new handle.
