SOURCE: ECU

I regret to tell you this, but, the whole truth is: Taking out a diesel and installing a 4AFE will require you to change the entire engine room wiring harness (including the fusebox), the proper 4AFE (manual or auto trans ECU), the fuel pump and the fuel filter, the air intake system, and most def the dashboard harness (which also connects to the ECU). What you have here is 2 entirely different worlds, gasoline vs diesel.
Sorry.
I would not recommend you to undertake this job, unless you have a complete "donor" vehicle for the abovementioned parts.

Keep in mind that tTe thermostat is installed on the inlet side of the water pump. Its purpose is to prevent overheating of the coolant by controlling the flow into the engine from the radiator.

How do I change the distributor

REMOVAL NOTE: Once the distributor is removed, the engine should NOT be turned or moved out of position. Should this occur, please refer to the engine rotated installation procedure. Distributor components — 4A-F engine 88272p61.jpg
Fig. 1: Exploded view of the distributor — 4A-F engine 88272g41.gif
Fig. 2: Exploded view of the distributor — 1993 4A-FE and 7A-FE engines 88272g42.gif

Fig. 4: Exploded view of the distributor — 4A-GF engine 88272g44.gif
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the distributor wire(s) at its harness. Loosen the screws holding the cap onto the housing 88272p05.jpg
Pull the cap and wires off the distributor housing 88272p06.jpg

  3. On the 4A-F engines, disconnect the vacuum advance hoses. NOTE: On some models the distributor wires are part of the cap and can not be separated.
  4. Remove the distributor cap. Label and disconnect the wires from the cap. On some engines it will be necessary to use a flat bladed tool to lift up the lock claw and disconnect the holder from the cap. Fig. 5: On some engines, use a flat bladed tool to lift up the lock claw to disconnect the holder from the distributor cap 88272g45.gif

  5. Carefully note the position of the distributor rotor relative to the distributor housing (also note position of distributor to the engine assembly); a mark made on the casing/housing will be necessary for reassembly. Use a marker or tape so the mark doesn't rub off during handling of the case/housing. Mark the position of the rotor relative to the distributor housing 88272p07.jpg
Label and remove all vacuum hoses attached to the advance on the distributor if equipped 88272p14.jpg
If necessary, remove the rotor 88272p08.jpg

  6. Remove the distributor hold-down bolts. Remove the distributor hold-down bolts before pulling the unit from the engine 88272p13.jpg

  7. Carefully pull the distributor from the engine assembly. Remove the O-ring from the distributor shaft. Pull the distributor straight out from the engine 88272p15.jpg

'95 Corolla Engine Question

An engine from another Corolla up to 1997 will fit. There are 2 engines though. 4A-fe (1.6L) or a 7A-fe (1.8L) They look similar but run different Engine managment computers. The 4A-fe uses a 3spd auto trans and the 7A-fe uses a 4spd auto trans. Also some of the wiring may be different.
Hope this helps.
