I have changed the water pump but need 2 get air out of system how do i do this?

Fill the rediator with water...add more as needed air dosent stay in the hoses for a water pump..just add coolant til its full and youll be fine

Car overheating

Two things to check:

1. Make sure you do not have an air bubble in your cooling system. Easiest way is to park facing uphill and let the car cool off. Remove the radiator cap, start the car and let run until the thermostat opens. If there are air bubbles in the cooling system the should be forced out. Top off fluid.
2. Are you sure that the cooling fan is running? When the car is getting hot, open the hood and make sure the radiator fan is actually turning.

My engine light has come on. leaking coolant slightly by hoses. also how important is it to get a system cleaning, change air filter and water pump at 60000?

1. The leaky coolant hoses will only deteriorate further and need to be replaced before a serious leak occurs and you overheat and damage your engine.

2. It's very important to carry out all scheduled maintenance on your vehicle as recommended by the manufacturer as well as attending to additional maintenance issues that will arise.

Cooling systems need to be flushed out and refilled with the correct specification new coolant every 2 years. It is very important that all air is bled from the cooling system when coolant is changed as failure to do this properly can cause air locks in the cooling system and result in overheating and engine damage.

Water pumps wear and fail and if not replaced will result in your engine overheating and very expensive engine damage will be the result. The cooling system thermostat should also be changed when the water pump is changed.

Maintenance of the engine's cooling system is extremely important and, if neglected, will certainly result in engine damage.

3. It is important to change the engine's air filter element as these clog up with fine dust impairing air flow to the engine for combustion. Once the filters begin to clog the engine will run very inefficiently and poorly and your fuel consumption will increase. You will end up burning your dollars on extra fuel when all you needed to do was replace a cheap part. These filters should be changed every 12 -18 months (more often than the car manufacturer usually states). On most cars the air filters are a very inexpensive item and very easy to change over.

How to change water and timing belt on my 2005 subaru legacy gt turbo, pump is leak or stains below the centre of the eng. near and alen key eng, plug?

Unless you have really high milage on this vehicle the pump is not likely to go. Pump on front of engine and if it leaked would run down front and sprinkle towards center. However a weak heater hose or cooling hose clamp could give you the same results.
Before you spens a fortune ( cause this job is basically a timing belt job with a water pump, and eng seals ) Have the vehicles cooling system pressure tested for leaks. The techn will know how to check pump if he thinks its bad.

We just did the same car with the same prob. The block was cracked and was pressurizing the cooling system causing the thermostat not to open. Remove your thermostat and run the car if it doesn't overheat you need a motor. Ours didn't show any hydrocarbons in the coolant either, so try the simple

Did you run engine from cold, WITH HEATER ON, and fill cap off when re-filling system? If not, try that and see what happens. Let the engine get up to operating temperature and rad fan come on to cool 2 or 3 times before putting cap back on.

Air lock in cooling system

Maybe you have a stuck thermostat instead or a weak water pump. If it is a air in the system issue be sure to run the heater also and jack the front of the car up. Look for a bleeder on the thermostat housing or the highest point somewhere between the radiator anf engine. Let the engine cool for a bit. This sometimes displaces the air as it cools down and you just need to add more coolant

1990 subaru legacy

Both head gaskets have to be replaced and the heads need to be resurfaced, be sure you go thru the torque specs and sequence correctly, it is a strange process, but has to be done. subaru puts out a product called cooling system conditioner, it's advised to install this.
