Question about 2003 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

My 92 ford taurus usually starts right up & seems to run smooth. ch eng lt comes on intermt. more & more frequently, my car will just die while driving. no real warning except I can "feel" it starting to "choke up" is the only way to describe it. it starts hesitating, then dies instantly. when i turn key to restart, i have to listen for fuel pump to kick in, sometimes it doesnt. if i try it enough times, it always witll & the car starts then. fuel filter changed last year did not solve problem. i have ran it out of gas a few times. i have been told there is a fuel filter in the gas tank itself also, that has not been changed. can you PLEASE advise?

I heard that if the fuel pump goes out it just goes out- no intermittent problems.........is that not so? Also, if the fuel filter in gas tank IS clogged, wouldnt it ruin a new fuel pump? I am not questioning your knowledge AT ALL, just trying to make sure I understand. I have been told replacing the filter in the tank is a BIG deal. But, if that is what it is..........

I want to thank everyone for your advice. I am sure you are correct & I need to replace fuel pump, it is stranding my daughters & I an average of 3 times a day now. I have several friends who have promised thier help, but of course they have lives also & my car will be a planter in my mother's garden before that happens. So, having gotten the problem pretty well pinpointed with your help, I am going to grab my chiltons, my belated brother's tools, roll up my sleeves & have a ball! Cant be that hard, I've done work on my car before & havent blown anything up & its not like I can make it any worse. I would MUCH rather be doing that than washing dishes, thats for darn sure. Thanks!! I'll let you guys know how it comes out.

    Thanks Again

Replace fuel pump and save yourself some grief. Most fuel problems in high mile car go out, but give you hell before it goes out completely

NOT SO!!! an electric fuel pumps will die a slow death and drain your wallet looking for another problem, only to find that you need a costly fuel pump. Most fuel pumps came as a module with an attached fuel filter, if not replace the fuel filter also. Also unless you know that you put dirty fuel in your tank most fuels are clean. And most modern tanks are made of plastics that do not erode into the fuel.

Replacing the fuel pump in the tank is really straight forward just spendy to buy the pump nothing high tech. Just be patiant when ding it. Also I'm thick skined and nothing bugs me.

HEY STOP!!!!! the replacement of the fuel pump, check the cat. converter first it my be bad. The older fords use the ceramic honey comb cat. convectors and they bust up real easy. Check by disconnecting the exhaust some where in front of converter. even if it is at the ex. manifold. It will be load but run it for awhile and see what happens.

Replace drive belt on 2004 Ford Taurus

ok with a smooth pulley use smooth side of belt with serrated pulley use serrated side of belt. The belt will seem too short at first but with some real muscle it can be pulled into place.
I never leave the tentioner for last because it is usually hard to get at.
leave the most convenient pulley for last the job goes smoother.
put the belt on the crankshaft first.
then go around in either direction. remember the smooth serrated rule and rout the belt. most likely the alternator will have a smooth pulley just before or after it.
good luck!!!

2000 ford taurus ses surges when engine is warm and stalls frequently

I would take it by any auto parts store to have them pull codes from the computer. They should be able to tell you the problem. However, I would suspect the IAC (idle air controller) to be faulty.

Stop at one of the bigger autoparts stores and they will scan for trouble codes and hopefully point you in the right direction. If not, get back to us with those codes and we can further assist you . Much faster and easier that way.

I have 98 ford taurus 3.0 eng auto, after driving in hot weather it dies out and try to restart it wont start, if i let it seat for little while it will start. took it to ford dealer but no problem found...

sounds like the igintion module or ecm,you can test your module with a meter or some auto parts stores can test them,on the ecm you would have to run a thorough data diagnois on it,best bet would be just tapping it and checking to see if the car dies, alot times the ecm will get hot and become faulty.
