Question about 2005 Ford F 250 Super Duty

Rotor Thickness What is the minimal thickness for the rear rotors on a 2005 F-250 Super Duty 4X4 ? I have a mechanic telling me they need to be replaced, they are smooth, no grooves and I think he's trying to hose me.

The rotor thikness will be stamped on the rotor itself. It will be in millimeters near the bolt pattern . you may have to clean it up but ther will be there

The rear disc brakes are wearing out closer to the center of rotor faster, like the caliper is not aligned straight with the rotor. What is needed to correct problem?

What year is the vehicle .
The year is importent because of the metal the rotors are made of .
Not many stores will turn rotors at all anymore .
You can thank China a lot of them are chrome plated and this is supposed a federialey controlled speic no such luck Class ACTION SUITE

Min thickness of front disc rotor


Perform this measurement in four areas of the rotor and make a note of each measurement taken. If the rotor is below 1.024 inches thick on the front or 0.413 inches on the rear, it must be replaced.

rotor thickness is cast into the rotor but if you cannot find it then contact a brake shop as they have the minimum measurements for all vehicles .

2000 Ford F250 Super Duty - Mechanic replaced pads all the way around. Now when you use the brakes the entire truck shakes. It has loosened up things. How do we fix this shaking?


Not being sarcastic but, take it back, and tell mechanic to try it, so he can feel it. Did he replace or machine the rotors? Is it front discs and rear drums, or all disc pads?

In my oppinion Factory pads are far better than most aftermarket pads. You can rule out the rotors by taking them down to a mechanic that has a lave. once they start turning the rotors they will be able to tell if the rotors are warped. If your rotor thickness is under the factory minimum they could have become warped over time, which would explain why the problem got worse over time. In that case you need to purchase new rotors and have them machined. Just make sure you replace the old pads with new ones.
