Same problem with my '02 Sport Trac. Seems like an easy fix if you didn't have to take apart the air bag. Anyone know how?

it fits under the steering wheel,
spiral cable is the part that connect the moving side (steering wheel)function buttons, horn, air bag, to the fixed side (car electric loom).

The cruise control on side of steering wheel is broken, can i get another one and plug it int the same spot?

But, i recommend you first locate your model of Explorer at a car wrecker in your local area. They may be able to supply the switch much cheaper than from your local Ford parts supplier.

Note: as you may be required to dismantle the steering wheel, you should NOT attempt this repair yourself as the airbag may deploy, causing serious injury.

Once you obtain the part your require, have your local Ford service agent fit the part for you.

I need to repace the cruise control switch how do I get the horn cover off

1. Remove the lower steering column cover.
2. Remove the AIR BAG bolts from the back side of the steering wheel with a T-30 socket. Install the bolts back in the air bag for reassembly. The AIR BAG will snap into place when pushed down on carefully.
3. Remove 2 screws on the bottom of the steering wheel cover. The wires need to slide out so the switch can be removed.
4. Remove the cruise control switches.

The AIR BAG does not have to be disconnected to remove the switches, just don't let it flop around or stretch the wires.

How do you replace the cruise control switch on a 2003 Ranger ?The present one is broken at the mounting on the left side of the steering wheel. It would appear that the steering wheel has to come off. How...

Disconnect thr battery and wait 5 minutes to deactivate the airbag. Remove the 2 caps covering the 2 8mm screws holding the air bag on. set the airbag a side.Unscrew the old switches , gently pry the switches from the wiring connector with a small screwdriver. If the connector comes off without damage install new switches to connector. If the connector gets damaged you will have to replace the wiring.

The cruise control power comes on but won't engage

Sounds to me you have a break in one of the cruise control wires either in the collum or on the control stick. If the cruise control is mounted in the steering wheel, then it is deffential in the collum. I STRONGLY suggest not to drive the car until you fix this. I had simular problem in a car I had, one time as I turned, the broken wire shorted over and the cruise accelurator kicked in and nearly caused a crash.

Fix this please

If your horn doesnt work either you have to remove the steering wheel and there is the connector for the horn/cruise control. If nothing broken there, check the clock spring too!

Grand Am GT Cruise Control

the face of the steering wheel does come off. In the back of the steering wheel there should be two holes if you feel around for them. In those holes are screws that hold the face on, just undo those screws and the face should come off. After that DO MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG THE AIRBAG. You don't want the going off in your face.
