Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

My wife's 1999 Rover 600 Series has engine problems. My friend also had a 1999 Rover 600 Series car but lost the keys approximately two years ago and his car has been sitting idle for the duration

In transferring the Computer and Complete Ignition system out of my wife's car replacing them inside the car I purchased from my friend, are we supposed to have transfer any other siring or anything else from car 'A' to car 'B'? As for my friend being unable to obtain new replacement keys, There's no locksmith in The Bahamas able to provide replacement keys for any Rover vehicles. The only place to get replacement keys is in the UK, a trillion miles from the Bahama and the cost quoted to him just to get replacement keys, was more than he had paid for the vehicle. Thanks for your help.

TThanks Vernon Hardnett. I'm having that done even as I respond to your Post. Will let you know what's the outcome. However,Finding Rover parts for servicing this vehicle, is proving to be quite a challenge as there's no Rover Dealer in the Bahamas, and no one carries these parts. However, they all are asking me which American made Car my1999 Rover 600 is compatible with. I have absolutely no idea. Do you or any one else know? Thanks again.

without a Rover Dealer in the Bahamas, I guess I'm having to go by suggestions. I am now being advised that a 1999 Rover 600 has the same engine as an American made Honda Accord. The Computer, Ignition System and Keys, I'm told, of a Honda Accord, replacing those of the 1999 Rover 600, would get the latter vehicle started. Any suggestions please? Thanks!

Thanks Vernon Hardnett. We had the car serviced as per your suggestion. As you've stated there's no Rover Dealer here in the Bahamas. However, I requested and subsequently received for a fee, via internet, the 'Ignition Code' from Rover Dealer in the UK. However, local Locksmith in the Bahamas doesn't have Rover 600 Blank Keys.in order to program it with the codes I've recently received. We lived only 35mins by ear from Florida and I'm wondering if I take the codes to a Dealer or Locksmith in Florida, would they have Rover Blank Keys, and would they be able to cut and program same? In the interim, you advised that a Honda Accord has the same engine as a 1999 Rover 600. IWould that be a Honda Accord of the same 1999 as our Rover 600? Thanks and you have thus far inspired me to continue my pursuit in solving this quandary. God Bless. I'll keep you posted of any progress. Thanks again! Kudos.

About my wife's 1999 Rover 600 Series. We discovered today that even though the two cars are same year, make model , the engine in the second Rover in which we installd the Computer and Ignition system from my wife' Rover, is slightly larger. After checking thos things Vernon Hardnett graciously suggested we do, we made the discovery. Now being advised to order the key from the Manufactor/Dealer and it should work with the original Computrer for the second Rover which I purchased. How do I go about doing this while in the Bahamas? The Locksmiths are unable to cut me a replacement key claiming they need the codes/instructions from the Dealer or Manufacturer. Also they'll need to know if a Honda Blank Key can be programmed to be compatible with my 1999 Rover 600. I'm lost and need any help or solution. Thank you.

SOURCE: Alarm system

I first bought a 1990 volvo turbo 760. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS VEHICLE! it was rear wheel drive and VERY easy to work on. it was a BLAST to drive and blow 5.0 mustangs off the road with a 4 cyllinder. I loved driving that car so much I bought a 1998 S70 Volvo (kept the 760 model). turns out I paid ALOT MORE for just another toyota camary with a Volvo nameplate. I didnt keep it long. it just wasnt the same. the interior started falling apart from day one.
I know the dissapointment... if it were me I would not spend any money on the alarm system. but if I did I would get the aftermarket version installed.
PLEASE dont let the timing belt break on this car!!!!! it wont be the same as your old one! it will be $4000 damage to the engine if it breaks. change it out early!

Try locking it with the fob, then unlock it with fob. If the antitheft is engaged, the light will stay on or flash.

How to remove engine

Pulling an engine is just a matter of disconnecting the mounts, all electrical connections, fuel lines and radiator hoses. This has not changed ever no matter the year.

Key programming

I believe you have to have the keys programmed by the dealer. I can't be absolutely sure of the 2001 model year but later years require dealer programming.

My 2008 Land Rover LR2 HSE key fob won't

So did you fix your problem? I'm now having the same exact problem. The key simply doesn't work; HOWEVER, I know the key is not dead. I also have a 2008 LR2 and there is no "Battery" in the key fob. I compained countless times to the dealer that the key would just stop unlocking doors on me. They told me the battery charges when it is in the ignition but there is no battery to replace. They recommeded I rotate my main and spare key to make sure they're both always charged. Well, I do, and same problem.

This problem started one year ago and I complained that I should not have to spend $500 for them to replace the key... because a 3-year-old key SHOULD NOT be dying. And not to mention, a large chunk of that $500 is for them to "program" the key.

I have an appointment on Friday at a certified Land Rover repair shop but NOT the dealer. The shop I called said the '08 LR2 has "huge key issues." I have had it with Land Rover and their lack of interest in helping deal with the problem, which I might add is clearly THEIR problem, if so many are having similar problems.

I will post an update after my appointment Friday.

2001 l rover discovery will not start

Sounds like fuel pump relay. This should come on the moment the ignition is switched on to pressurise the system. It then is on a timer and will go off after a few seconds if the engine isn't cranked. Find out where it is and see if it is a normal relay (no electronics inside) in which case, the fuel pump is controlled by the ECU. If electronics inside, then it is the timer type of relay and it would be worth considering replacing.
