Question about 2004 Toyota ECHO

Open Question

My 2004 Toyota echo chugs when in idle, has little power, and has a knocking sound when accelerating. I only had it serviced last week, after having a coil replaced.

I had the alternator replaced the day before. When in low rev the car sounds like a Harley Davidson as it builds speed, but has very low power, once doing a good speed, the engine hums along with no problem....and the knocking which only rattles at the beginning of driving off from idle, sounds like a hollow weight hanging loosely

Your harmonic ballancer is shot.
With the engine off , key out of the ignition... grasp the belt that goes down to the engine crank and see if you can make it turn a little ... if you can , you will see that the outside of that bottom most pully turns ... while the crank does not...
Replace the harmonic ballancer with a new unit... ( used ones are 90% junk by the time you get em from a bone yard...)

There is a cut out on the passangers side to access the bolt you need to take out... it is behind the tire , so the tire must be removed to access it...
easy fix ya !

What could be wrong with my Toyota Echo if the engine chugs while idling, and the car loses power when accelerating (stalling out if accelerating too quickly)?

There are numerous things that will cause this problem. If the check engine light is on, have the codes checked to see if there is a problem the computer has found to cause this issue. Even without the check engine light on, there may be a code stored. You can also do a visual inspection under the hood for any disconnected hoses causing vacuum leaks. These are the best places to begin with diagnostics

Depends if it is a no tolerance motor, which means bent valves.

Sounds like a weak power cable somewhere... either a partly blown fusible link, or a bad connection that has grown over time to become the issue it is today....I do not know if, when the car stops, does the entire vehicle power goes out, meaning that there are no lights (idiot lights in the dash, service engine, check engine, etc).. If absolutely no lights are visible anywhere, then I would hazard a guess that there is an issue with the power cable coming off of the battery terminal, or alternator (generator) problem. I can't really give you more than that with out more information. for an example, is the "power off" issue, repeatable under the exact same circumstances? Can it be repeated every time you try to repeat it or is it something that is just happening when ever it feels like it?

good day, first of all you may ask the owner if he has the service manual so you can change the last timing belt changed. secondly you may try to check the belt itself if it has some tiny cracks or a little loose or a little worn. hope this helps, have a nice day

How can I to change or regulate the RPMs in my toyota echo 2001. After a clean in the iac valve the RPMs of engine were changed in idle acceleration I hear that the engine is more accelerate that before of...

Idle is controlled through the on board computer and is not adjustable, however after u cleaned the system you need to disconnect the battery for 5 minutes and then let the system relearn the idle speed, this takes about 30 miles of driving a combination of city and highway.

Power loss / low idle speed

This could be a multitude of things but my first suggestion would be to change the spark plugs. They are cheap and can be bought at any auto parts store.

Engine knock

The idle issue is normal. The idle is controlled by the ECU. There are no adjustments for the idle. Regarding the knocking noise, that could be several things, and I am hesitant to comment without hearing it. Take it to a Toyota Dealer & have a tech listen to it. We are very good at identifying noises on the service drive.
